It was a #VuarnetDay at the Palais de l'Élysée on Saturday, June 8, 2024. French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed U.S. President Joe Biden to the Élysée as part of his official state visit to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day earlier that week, including a presentation of French patrimony that featured VUARNET sunglasses. During a working lunch session President Macron extended gifts to President Biden as an act of friendship between the two nations. President Macron offered President Biden a pair of Vuarnet Edges outfitted with Greylynx™ mineral glass lenses made in Vuarnet’s manufacturing facility in Meaux. The style features the iconic Vuarnet motif of French flag rim accents, fitting as France and the U.S. share flag colors of red, white and blue. Donning his new shades, President Biden left the Élysée for the rest of his day’s itinerary with his eyes well protected. Photo: Antoine Gyori - Corbis/Corbis via Getty Images

À propos
Vuarnet has a unique story. It began in 1957 in Roger Pouilloux's workshops on Paris' Rue Boissy d’Anglas. This avant-garde optician and ski enthusiast would revolutionise the world of sunglasses by inventing an exceptional lens capable of both protecting him on the slopes and offering depth perception in overcast weather. It would take a chance meeting for the story to become a legend. This meeting took place between Roger Pouilloux and Jean Vuarnet in 1959, when the optician offered the French ski champion the 02 frames as a token of his admiration. It was with these glasses that Jean Vuarnet went on to win the downhill skiing gold medal at the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley, California. Following this victory, the two men forged a friendship and decided to join forces to create a brand that reflected their character: innovative, efficient and elegant. Vuarnet was born. Vuarnet glasses were quickly adopted as urban wear by such famous personalities as Mick Jagger, Romy Schneider, Alain Delon and Miles Davis. They have also appeared on-screen in numerous films, including Daniel Craig in the latest Bond film Spectre, Jake Gyllenhaal in Everest, and Jeff Bridges in The Big Lebowski. Vuarnet designs and manufactures its own tinted mineral glass lenses at its production facility in Meaux, near Paris, France. All of Vuarnet’s tinted mineral lenses are developed to the same exacting standards, for daily use or for intense lighting conditions. Vuarnet mineral lenses offer the very best optical precision and maximum protection, are extremely hard-wearing and deliver the ultimate in visual comfort.
