  • Happenstance

We created happenstance because we wanted to meet new interesting people, with no other purpose than sharing thoughts, ideas, and life experience. We had that burning desire to expand our world, and to discover the lives and adventures of other people we don’t know yet. Although internet is pretty great for finding jobs, dates, and old friends, there is no service that would allow us to meet some random people, who are obviously cool and curious just like you (and us).

Although internet is pretty great for finding jobs, dates, and old friends, there is no service that would allow us to meet some random people, who are obviously cool and curious just like you (and us).

With Happenstance, we want to allow everyone to meet someone new and different, but yet kind of similar. Maybe a teacher from Japan, or a student in Europe, or a traveler in Asia, or a journalist from Africa, or a gardener, or a dentist, or an archeologist, or a professional gamer, or...well you get it.

We launched on Product Hunt a few months ago and got thousands of users within a few months and without doing any conventional marketing. It's still an alpha version and we're currently working on a new version.

  • Master's Thesis: International Delegation of Power: the Economics of Constitutional Reforms and Transfer of Power to International Organizations

We can observe since many years an increasing shift of policymaking authority from Nation States to international organizations. The European Union is the best example of such a trend but is far from being the only one. For instance during the financial crisis we have seen the IMF intervening to a great extent into States policymaking and in developing countries during the last decades. Among the international relative anarchy we can observe different possibilities for the distribution of power, therefore the domain of policymaking assignments is multidimensional. This can lead to different allocation of power and to constitutional exchanges. This could be compared to international private markets where the laws of one country define private property rights but in the case of this "international market for power" Constitutions delimit policymaking property rights. As a consequence, Governments of Nation States are the owners of some "political powers" and they can enter into a bargain process with international institutions in order to redistribute this political powers. After this exchange the International Institution control something which was previously under the control of the government in question. The goal of this thesis is to analyze this "international market for authority" principally by using Constitutional economics theory and Public choice Theory and to understand under what conditions governments are ready "to sell" some of their authority to an international and supranational level.
