Between January 25-28, the eighth edition of 4 Design Days will take place at the International Congress Center in Katowice. A celebration of architecture and design, this is the largest event of its kind in Poland, offering unique networking and discussion opportunities for architects and designers, investors, developers, manufacturers, and city authorities from Poland and abroad. Among a huge range of events, panels and exhibitions, topics will include several issues close to OPG Property Professionals' ethos, from the social dimension of revitalization to "a recipe for mixed-use". The programme will also include sessions under the slogan "Green Buildings" and the establishment of a Forum of Sustainable Construction Experts to create a list of key recommendations that will accelerate the green revolution in the construction industry in Poland. EU Mies Awards 2024 shortlist announced! The European Commission and the Fundació Mies van der Rohe announced the 40 shortlisted works that will compete in the EUmies Awards 2024! The 7 members of the jury – Martin Braathen, Pippo Ciorra, Frédéric Druot, Tinatin Gurgenidze, Adriana Krnáčová, Sala Makumbundu, and Hrvoje Njiric. – have chosen 40 works that highlight today’s shared culture of architecture in Europe. One of the many privileges I get to experience living in Europe is discovering hidden architectural gems! All sarcasm aside, I was once given some advice when I was an intern, traveling will change your perspective and your approach to your design. Having the opportunity to see architectural masterpieces that you have only ever seen in books was an invaluable experience. One thing that did change was my understanding of scale, the relationship between human, intimate and monument scales. How your feelings change as you move from one space to another, crossing thresholds and maybe, understanding the intention of the designer. #architecture #design

We posed this question to two lecturers from the Academy of Architecture in Amsterdam, PETER VAN ASSCHE, Professor of Architecture & Circular Thinking, and JANNA BYSTRYKH, Head of the Master’s Programme in Architecture. We discussed with them the students’ drive to see change as soon as possible in education and practice; the unconventional assignments Peter and Janna give to their students; whether designing with sustainable materials leads to a different form of aesthetics, and a widening of the scope that is taking place in the profession of architecture.
