Balkan Space Engineering takes part in development of a New European Reusable Space Transportation System - ASPIRE. The Space System includes: ‒   A medium-lift launch vehicle with a reusable first stage, capable of delivering up to 12.2 tons of payload to LEO (for launches with the reusable first stage from Kazakhstan). ‒   A Reusable Transportation Spaceship designed to deliver up to 4 tons of cargo to an orbital station and return up to 2 tons to Earth, with autonomous flight capability for up to 30 days. Launches are planned from Kazakhstan and French Guiana. Half of these launches are dedicated to India's commercial space sector, with the rest comprising user-funded, scientific, and technology test missions. Notably, ISRO's commercial arm, NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), is set to conduct seven commercial missions, including two Polar Satellite Launch Vehicles (PSLVs) by an industry consortium. A US-based space startup has introduced the world's inaugural satellite launching drone, which claims to be capable of delivering a fresh payload to orbit every 180 minutes. The company, known as Aevum, asserts that their colossal 80-foot long drone, the Ravn X, boasts full autonomy, a 70 percent reusability rate, and the ability to take off and land on runways as short as a mile in length. Through collaboration with the US Space Force, Aevum emphasizes their groundbreaking approach to revolutionizing space access, centering on enhanced autonomy and more efficient logistics. The drone's operational process involves taking off from any suitable runway, ascending to high altitude, and deploying a secondary stage responsible for propelling a small payload into space. Subsequent to launching the secondary stage into low Earth orbit, the drone autonomously returns to its designated runway, executes a landing, and then is parked in its designated hangar. Anticipated to debut with the US Space Force ASLON-45 small satellite launch mission in 2021, the Ravn X marks a significant advancement in satellite launch technology.

In Memorium of ‘The Little Helicopter That Could’ Last week, as a consequence of rotor damage, NASA declared that Ingenuity (aka the Mars Helicopter) had flown its final mission. Originally conceived as a technology demonstrator to determine whether powered flight was possible in the thin Martian atmosphere, and without any promise of short or medium term financial gain by proving it could be, the US$87Million project has officially come to an end after Ingenuity logged 72 flights over 2 hours 8 minutes of flight time, for a total of 17kms flown. Congratulations, and condolences, to the people who made it happen. Without taking risks (and flying a helicopter drone on Mars is about as risky as it comes) and without considering the long term benefits that derive from technology demonstrators in hi-tech, hi-risk, hi-return sectors (and the US now has a viable hi-tech drone industry on a scale that Australia is unlikely to ever see because of the bean-counter mentality that perpetuates a ridiculous focus on low risk, short term return projects), our ability to compete in hi-growth, big-dollar, advanced technology sectors such as autonomous aircraft - where we have astonishingy good, world class capabilities that need risk investment at scale to nuture and support innovation until commercialisation is achieved - continues to be undermined. #nasa #ingenuity #mars #spaceexploration #spacetechnology #innovation #drones #droneinnovation
