The summer heat is reaching peak levels, and the best hitters across the MLB have all risen to the occasion as of late. As we begin this month of July, there is no doubt we are in clear hitter weather. I’ll back the hitter trends to remain consistent Friday night as we look into an AL Central/AL West weekend showdown.
Houston Astros vs. Minnesota Twins
After a concerning start to the season, the Astros have returned to their winning ways. They enter Friday 15-3 over their last 18 games. The loss of Kyle Tucker hasn’t had as big an impact on the Astros lineup as expected, thanks to the consistent play of Yordan Alvarez. Over the last 15 games, Alvarez has been red-hot, posting a .365 AVG, 5 homers and 13 RBIs with a .750 SLG. Friday, Alvarez gets to see a familiar foe in Pablo Lopez. In five head-to-head appearances, Alvarez has a .600 AVG vs. Lopez with three singles. While the history is great in the matchup, I love how Yordan stacks up against Lopez’s pitch mix to LHB even more.
