The sports world rips Brewers fans after Josh Hader gets standing ovation

A crowd in Milwaukee showed off the worst aspect of sports fandom: Blind loyalty to players, even when supporting those players requires a complete disregard for one’s moral compass.

Brewers fans didn’t have to boo Josh Hader when he made his first Miller Park appearance since his racist and homophobic tweets from 2011 were uncovered during the All Star break. But giving the disgraced pitcher a standing ovation was an embarrassing look for those in attendance.

Had Hader been wearing another team’s jersey — or maybe if his disgusting tweets were aimed at the demographic that makes up a majority of a baseball crowd — he would have been booed. Manny Machado was booed by that same Brewers crowd simply because he was traded to the Dodgers instead of the Brewers.

The sports world gave those fans a much-deserved dragging on Twitter…
