About this event

In digital media, who holds the power?

Where are future audiences?

How is tech changing storytelling?

At this moment of rapid change in the media industry, the ABC invites you to Futurecast, a free public conference. On August 7, you can hear from technologists, content makers, and industry leaders on the ways that information and entertainment are changing – and, most importantly, on how we can prepare.

In three parts, the conference will interrogate the power dynamics between media and technology companies; explore how to reach audiences of the future; and illuminate the ways that new technology is changing storytelling.

Featured guests include:

  • Kim Williams AM – Chair, ABC
  • Prof. Kate Crawford – Leading international AI scholar
  • Damian Cronan – Chief Digital and Information Officer, ABC
  • Chris Oliver-Taylor – Chief Content Officer, ABC
  • Sabrina Daryanani – Head of APAC & Principal at media consultancy FT Strategies
  • Dr. Derek Muller – Creator and host, Veritasium on YouTube
  • Julian Delany – Chief Technology Officer, News Corp Australia
  • Prof. Jean Burgess – Distinguished Professor of Digital Media, QUT

  • Arul Baskaran – Manager, ABC Innovation Lab
  • Aslan Pahari – Religion and history digital host, ABC
  • Mary McGillivray – Art history communicator, ABC TV’s ‘The Art Of...’
  • Wendy Zukerman – Creator and host, Science Vs.

... with MC Ange Lavoipierre, the ABC’s National Technology Reporter.

More than 90 years ago the ABC began as a series of radio stations, and has since transitioned through magnetic tape and satellite dishes and rabbit ears and compact discs and smartphones. Now a new future is here, as audiences continue to fragment and artificial intelligence stands to transform how Australians access and create media. At this moment of flux and possibility, we have the opportunity to shape that future.

Join the ABC in planning for the future of the media industry. Register now – for free – to attend Futurecast 2024: a conference at the inflection point.
