The Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention and Policy is local governments’ one-stop shop for resources to improve public safety in Maryland.

We provide access to federal and state grant funds and we can provide assistance to your town, city, county, agency as it attempts to maneuver through the red tape to tap these resources.

We work with you to plan your project, coordinate stakeholders, develop accountability measures and get results from your investments and efforts.

We connect you to best practices in national and state programming and innovations.

Vision

A safer Maryland.

Mission

To serve as a coordinating office that advises the Governor on criminal justice strategies. The office plans, promotes, and funds efforts with government entities, private organizations, and the community to advance public policy, enhance public safety, reduce crime and juvenile delinquency, and serve victims.

History

1995 – Executive Order 01.01.1995.18 established the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention by merging the Governor’s Drug and Alcohol Abuse Commission and the Governor’s Office of Justice Administration.

2005 – Executive Order 01.01.2005.36 empowered the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention to develop collaborative and deliberative approaches to impact crime through more effective management of Maryland’s criminal justice resources.

2007 – Executive Order 01.01.2007.04 placed Maryland’s Statistical Analysis Center within the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention to facilitate statewide crime data analysis and sharing to generate effective local policies and solutions.
