For Immediate Release

Ellicott City, MD — On Tuesday the Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention and Policy (GOCPP) hosted its 8th Annual Victims’ Rights Conference at the Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City. The event brought together more than 500 victim service professionals and advocates from across the state to celebrate achievements, share best practices, and advance the cause of victim rights. The Conference took place during 2024 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week.

This year’s conference featured an inspiring keynote address by Disability Advocate Kris McElroy. Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller also attended the conference. She presented three outstanding victim services advocates with awards at the conference.

These awards underscored the invaluable role played by individuals and organizations in supporting and empowering victims of crime.

The event also included a series of professional development workshops covering a wide range of topics relevant to victim services, including Post-Conviction Victim Services, Support Services Guidance for Mass Casualty Incidents, and Exploring the Complexities of Sexual Violence in the Transgender Community. Attendees had the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions, network, exchange ideas, and enhance their skills to better serve the needs of victims and survivors.

“We are thrilled to host another successful Victims’ Rights Conference, bringing together dedicated professionals and advocates committed to supporting victims of crime,” said Rebecca Allyn, GOCPP Manager of Victim Services Initiatives. “This event serves as a platform to recognize the remarkable achievements of service providers and to strengthen our collective efforts to ensure that victims receive the support and resources they need to rebuild their lives.”
