Erik Burnham is a Minnesotan writer and artist that first broke into comics with a series of humorous short stories in the Shooting Star Comics Anthology. These stories featured his original creation, Nick Landime, and culminated in a one-shot: Nick Landime vs. the World Crime League, published by Shooting Star in 2005.

Off and on, in this same time period, Erik also produced a short run of an online strip, The Down Side, until technical issues wore him down. He aims to return to the strip one day.

In 2007, Erik found produced work for two other anthologies – a short humor piece for History Graphics Press’ Civil War Adventures #1, and a horror story for Gene Simmons’ House of Horror #3, produced by IDW Publishing.

This lead to several other projects for IDW, up to and including his critically acclaimed run on the ongoing GHOSTBUSTERS comic book.

Erik has worked on other projects not related to comic books, and hopes one day to share those with the public at large. In the meantime, he still lives quietly in Minnesota; any rumors about this being because he’s completely afraid of the forty-nine other states (and Canada) remain unverified at this time.

I ain't afraid of no turtle!

This TPB collects “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles / Ghostbusters” #1-4.

Additional illustrators: Charles Paul Wilson III & Cory Smith

NEW YORK’S FINEST TEAMS

The Ghostbusters are here! – And apparently so are some kinda kung fu martians.
I had heard about this crossover (thanks to reviews of GR friends here) but I wasn’t able to get it, but some days ago (in Black Friday to be precise) I met this TPB in a local bookstore and I went into…

…”shut-up-and-take-my-money” mode!

Good thing that it was Black Friday, so not only I got this TPB with the coolest crossover ever, but also I got a good 30% discount in the process.

I’m April O’Neil. My friends are…

Leonardo. // Michelangelo. // Donatello. // And Raphael.

Color coded, huh? Handy. We’re the Ghostbusters. That’s Botticelli, Signorelli, and Titian. I’m El Greco.

Dude, really?

He’s messin’ with us, dummy.

Sorry. Used to date a gal who restored art. Couldn’t resist. I’m Dr. Venkman, but you can call me Peter. Behind me is Dr. Ray Stantz, Winston Zeddemore, and y’know, Egon.

Dr. Spengler.

I didn’t expect that they would need a transdimensional teleporter machine to make possible the epic meeting of this two teams, since they both live in current New York! Come on! It’s not like Batman (Gotham City) and Judge Dredd (Mega-City One) where they not only live in two different fictional cities but also in two different time periods, if Marvel could fit an entire universe of characters in New York, I am sure that to fit two more teams would be easy as peach.

Obviously the Ghostbusters are public figures (with TV commercials and appearing in the phone book (1-800-555-2368)), but the TMNT operate in the shadows, so it could be logical that they wouldn’t meet until now…

…but nope, it seems that the comic book creative team wanted to establish that each team live in a different parallel version of New York, in one is normal having troubles with ghosts and demons, while the other is messing around with criminal ninja clans and alien conquerors.

Something that I did liked a lot it’s that IDW Publishing manages the physical appearances of the Ghostbusters just like they looked like in the original live action movies, so you can say that they are “more real” than even The Real Ghostbusters cartoon versions. (But don’t get me wrong, I love that cartoon show)

DON’T CROSS THE STREAMS AND COWABUNGA, DUDES!

So, four talking turtles, with masks, and ninja weapons.

Yeah, aren’t you glad that’s not the weirdest thing we’ve seen this week?

Donatello has been working along with Harold Lillja (a mad scientist created for the IDW TMNT comic book run) and April O’Neill (that seems that her newsreporter’s days are gone and now she is a science whiz) in a teleporter machine, but you can bet that in the first major test, an accident sends the TMNT (along with April and Casey Jones) not only to another place in New York, but also to a whole different parallel version of the City That Never Sleeps, where happens to live The Ghostbusters (along with Janine Melnitz & Kylie Griffin (the girl who manages Ray’s Occult Bookstore)).

That wouldn’t be much problem, however the transdimensional incident liberated an inmortal being, known as Chi-You (just like the Chinese War God), in a spectral-like form, with new powers able to possess multiple humans at the same time, making a paranormal army doing his bidding (starting with Casey Jones!), with ambitious plans of not only conquering the current dimension but all other possible dimensions too.

The Ghostbusters and the TMNT, after the usual crossovers misunderstandings and formal introductions, joined forces to deal with their two situations: One, constructing another transdimensional teleporter machine to get back the TMNT (and friends); and two, finding the proper way to trap Chi-You without harming the innocent possessed humans.

Just another Class-Seven Paranormal Event, no sweat for the Ghostbusters and the Heroes in Half-Shell!

Donatello builds a stargate and accidentally teleports himself and the other Turtles to a different New York – the Ghostbusters’ New York! The two franchises proceed to putz around for as long as they need to and then it ends.

I don’t dislike either the Turtles or the Ghostbusters but this comic was dreadful, mostly because of writers Erik Burnham and Tom Waltz’s humdrum script. The opening scene from centuries ago had no bearing on the story whatsoever. The villain, a bullgod or something, argues with his sister over another stargate, then Krang appears with a tube, and the bullgod is thrown into the stargate. We never hear from the sister or Krang again or find out the relevance of their squabble or the tube. Rubbish storytelling!

The book is structured between crap fight scenes, as the Turtles/Ghostbusters battle the bullgod over and over without doing anything, and beyond boring exposition scenes where the characters stand around talking about how to the fix the stargate to send the Turtles back to their New York. Both types of scene are utterly tedious to read.

And the bullgod’s motivation for being a villain? He wants to rule the world. And every other world. Because that’s what bad guys want. I can’t even…

Maybe if you’re a die-hard fan (aka the cheapest of dates!) who only wants to see Mikey ride shotgun in Ecto-1 or wear the brown onesie, or see Donnie using a proton pack, you’ll get something out of this. Otherwise this is like a comics version of the dumbest kid’s cartoon, full of underwritten scenes, one-dimensional characters and a non-existent plot. The worst! Don't cross the streams? Don't cross the franchises!

Your standard crossover of properties. The Turtles get transported to the Ghostbusters world and they bring one of the animal gods over there with them. From that point it's your standard punch-em-up before time expires and the Turtles have to get home or be stranded. I did like that IDW incorporated this into both of the comics regular continuity. Chi-You (The bull god bad guy) is part of a family of animal themed immortals that started popping up in the regular run with Kitsune and Rat King.

I'm not a fan of Schoening's art style for the Ghostbusters. It's overly cartoony while the Turtles, April, and Casey Jones are drawn more traditionally. It's like the Turtles crossed over into the Real Ghostbusters world (although that cartoon had more realistic character designs as well).

A good crossover. More was done on the Ghostbuster side that the TMNT side, but I enjoyed it.

The testing a new invention the TMNT end up on the right place but the wrong dimension meeting the Ghostbuster. However something else was unleashed with them.

I liked the artwork and the story, the characters came together, I just would have like some more ninja fighting not just the ghostbusting. Then again the main bad guy was a ghost/spirit so it is understandable. Each chapter starts with 2 different covers of that issue, the cover gallery at the end had quarter page thumbnails of the variants.

Man, I had so much fun reading this work. Basically, the Turtles end up hitching a ride into the wrong dimension as a result of one of Donatello's malfunctioning inventions. They arrive in New York, but end up encountering a dangerous spirit who takes control of one of their friends (Casey). Luckily, the Ghostbusters arrive to help matters out. I totally ship Donatello and Egon as potential BFFs (Raphael and Peter too - those two had more quotable one-liners in this comic than a little bit).

The best Ghostbuster/Turtle relationship though? Winston and Leonardo - those two had mutual respect for one another. The storyline was strong as the Turtles and Ghostbusters join forces against this immortal presence and have to outwit the being's manipulations before the Ghostbusters can find a way to send the Turtles back home.

Overall, the comic does a fine job with the storyline and development between the characters. The art is decent, more in line with newer character designs, and they're consistent in style. Overall, I'd definitely love to read another crossover story with the Turtles and Ghostbusters down the line.

Overall score: 4.5/5 stars

Note: I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, from the publisher.

Who you gonna call…? The pizza delivery guy!

This a fun book. But, you probably figured that one out by the title alone.

Basically, the Turtles end up in an alternate dimension where grow men hunt ghosts. The machine that causes the trans-dimensional travel is thankfully just a quick plot device and the author doesn’t try to overly explain it. There is instead a nice little homage to a classic teleportation machine gone wrong story, with The Fly.

After a brief misunderstanding/fight (apparently necessary for every crossover ever) they quickly begin to battle a common foe.

Both the artwork and the story brought me back younger days, with shows like Men In Black and Jackie Chan Adventures. It is this feeling more than anything else that pushed it into 5 Star territory.

(I received this free ebook from NetGalley in exchange for this honest, if poorly written, review.)

Two of IDW's carefully cultivated properties collide as the Turtles and the 'Busters find themselves facing down a ghostly god, and a race against the clock to get the Turtles back to their home dimension.

This book's great from the get-go - it uses pre-established Turtles continuity to introduce a villain that works for both them and the Ghostbusters, as well as explaining away why one of the Pantheon hasn't shown up in the main Turtles book as well.

From there we get all the things you want in a crossover between two properties like this - characters sharing similar thoughts and having discussions about the nature of their home dimensions, ninja turtles kicking ass, Mikey with a proton pack, and an epic conclusion at the Firehouse that uses everyone to the best of their ability to solve the problem and save the day.

It's just good fun, which some property crossovers seem to forget - this is the stuff that kids who played with their Turtles and Ghostbusters toys imagined all the time, so have some fun with it!

And of course Dan Schoening is on deck to make sure everything looks top notch as well. He's a dab hand at drawing the Ghostbusters, but he's a great fit for the Turtles as well, capturing their unique looks and personalities just as well as some of the regular TMNT artists. I'm convinced that there's nothing this dude can't draw anymore.

TMNT/Ghostbusters is how you do a crossover. Start to finish, it's fun, it uses both sets of characters as much as possible, and feels like a story with consequences for them both. Top notch.

[Yeah, I managed to read all the Ghostbusters stuff that uses the interdimensional portal BEFORE reading the story where they get it. I'm great at this.]

I won't lie, I had really low expectations going into this. These seemed like an intriguing match-up, but not one that would be executed well. While it wasn't "great," it wasn't bad, so that made me pretty happy and willing to read more if there are any more forthcoming. Basically the Ghostbusters and the turtles meet up when there is a glitch in one of the turtle's new inventions. They're sent to New York, but it's in an alternate dimension and it's one where the Ghostbusters reign supreme and no one has ever heard of the turtles. When an ancient ghost/god pulls himself into their dimension, using the same rip that the turtles traveled through, the two groups of heroes have to work together to banish the bad guy and create a machine that will send them back to their dimension. Humorous and full of great art.

Do you happen to like either Ghostbusters or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ?
of course you do and if you don't I hate you (no I don't I'm lying) First of all let me give you my rating it's a 3.5 out of 5 because the plot was kind a meh, I rounded it up to a 4 because it was so much fun. I mean its friggin GB and TMNT gimme a break. This book is definitely worth a read.

Put the Real Ghostbusters and the Ninja Turtles into a room and you'll find out that they have one thing in common: PIZZA!

•Simplest thing to do would have been for the turtles and April to journey down into the sewers to make sure they were in the right dimension the whole time.🙄

3,5 / 5

4.5 stars.

I admit to being a sucker for nostalgia. It's bad enough that I spent a couple hundred dollars to go to a convention just to meet the voice actors and one of the original writers of the comics, Kevin Eastman. And since Ghostbusters and TMNT were huge parts of my childhood, this comic was basically like someone at IDW said "How can we get Liss to give us money? This? Would this do it?"

It absolutely would, and to be perfectly honest, this book was well worth the money to me. It would have been worth buying in a hardcover to me. I don't know if folks coming at this without the nostalgia will have the same attachment that I do, however.

Let's start with the plot - the Turtles are messing around with a new device Donatello and co have created that's meant to teleport them from one place to another in an instant (Mirage comics readers, yeah, it's what you think it is). Except when the turtles, along with April and Casey, give it a try, something goes wrong, because otherwise where would the story come from?

This is the excuse for getting the two together - the Turtles appear in the same place as a major ghost and when the Ghostbusters get there, they naturally think the guys are something supernatural. (I mean honestly, it makes perfect sense, right?)

So now we have our crossover set up, and I want to give it a piece of praise right up front - everyone is absolutely in character. All the turtles, all the Ghostbusters, all the supporting cast. Some get more of an opportunity to show off than others, but everyone is clearly recognizable, and I swear there are times you could cover up the pictures, jsut read the dialogue, and still have a pretty solid idea who's taking to who.

Additionally, it gives pretty much everyone something to do. Some have more, some less, but everyone does something to affect the plot. It can be a little hard sometimes with crossovers with huge casts to make sure everyone gets at least a corner of the spotlight. They made the effort here, and I think it really paid off.

In the end, there is a lot of standing around and talking in this book, and if I wasn't obsessed with the characters and the backgrounds of the franchises, there might be times when I found this to drag a little. But because I loved the way even the slow moments painted the characters, I couldn't hate on it.

This is going to have a place in my rotation of often-reread stories, along with such titles as the original Young Avengers run and Booster Gold. SO enjoyable and so very well presented.

Two worlds collide as both unusual teams work together to show a god of war New York is not his playground.

A crossover event that is as fun and action packed as you would expect when these two teams meet. With an experiment gone wrong the TMNTs, Casey Jones, and April O'Neil find themselves in an alternate New York where ghosts are very real. Unfortunately a powerful being cast into a dimensional trap earlier in the book is also freed into the world but the Ghostbusters are pretty much used to taking on Gods by now so it is time to handle the situation. Some misunderstandings later we get to see Donatello and the smartest the Ghostbusters bounce ideas as hotheads and cool heroic types bond in this buddy movie type of comic with a horrific twist. :)

My fave moment in the book would have to be whne the experiment went horribly wrong when a fly flew in while the crew is ready to teleport referencing the Fly movie (but without the hideous genetic mutations.) The rest of the book is full of fun interactions between characters from both worlds but this errant fly sent our crew on an adventure that may lead to a certain vengeful god's return one day. Of course you'll have to read the book to find out how Chi-You is handled. :)

'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Ghostbusters' is a 4 issue crossover comic that was actually a lot of fun.

When a new invention goes wrong, the Turtles are sent to an alternate New York where the Ghostbusters live. Instead of weird mutants and anthropomorphic animals, they have to learn to deal with ghosts. The Ghostbusters likewise have to figure out what to do with these human size talking turtles.

The turtles are chasing a strange new enemy who has captured their friend Casey Jones. They also have to figure out how to get back to their New York. Before long, the 'busters and the turtles have paired off according to style and strength. Brainy and brainy, wise-cracking and wise-cracking, etc.

Sometimes these team ups don't seem to work so well, but I think this one worked out great. I liked how the two teams seemed pretty well matched up. The art is kind of a cartoony looking style, but it fits the book well. It was a lot of fun to read.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Diamond Book Distributors, IDW Publishing, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

This just wasn’t for me. The artwork was pretty ugly and the plot didn’t exactly advance the overall story of the series. I’m not a Ghostbusters fan so the nostalgia didn’t hit it for me and instead this was a tedious go through.

One with a whole lot more ghosts... and Ghostbusters!

OH MY GOD, GUYS, THERE'S A TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES CROSSOVER WITH GHOSTBUSTERS! THIS IS MY CHILDHOOD! RIGHT HERE!

Whew, okay, enough with the caps for now. I was ridiculously excited to see this on Netgalley, and immediately went "Review! Must Review This!"

First, The turtles look fine (and along with their trademark mask colors, they are also different shades of green, which I really like), but I'm not a fan of the character design for the Ghostbusters. Also, at what point did the car become ECTO-1? I mean, I haven't really read a lot of Ghostbusters comics, but shouldn't it be ECHO-1?

Anywho.

Attempting to avoid spoilers makes this one a bit difficult to talk about. I mean, the nifty moments? All spoilerific. The overall design is not overly cartoony (with the exception of the Ghostbusters), and the overall effect, while still brightly and well colored, is still pretty dark. It fits in well with the storyline.

I think I was expecting something a bit more humorous, though. It was more like a 30-minute episode than a fully-fleshed combination of the two universes. Also, not a fan of the ending - it leaves everything bascially unresolved, which kinda defeats the purpose of the previous, oh, 87 pages.

I'm not going to get into things like characterization, because they've been around for so long, but I will say that they are all true to canon.

But Michaelangelo will always be the best.

I did have some trouble reading this on my computer, so I would definitely say find a physical copy, or go with a comics reading app on your phone that moves through the panels.

3 stars (would have been 3.5 but looking at Winston makes me cringe inside).

Reviewed first at Brunner's Bookshelf

I love the Netgalley emails that have all the new Graphic Novels available. Most of the time they are Read Now titles. I don't always like the titles in those emails, but when I saw the Ninja Turtles and Ghostbusters in one book I couldn't download this fast enough.

So there is a lot going on in this book for such a short story. We begin way way back in time with a few immortals fighting it out. There is some magic and Chi-you is sucked into a dimensional limbo. Flash forward to the present deep in the sewers. The Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles are working on e teleportation device like in Star Trek. A fly distracts the scientist helping them and boom, they are transported across dimensions to the New York of the Ghostbusters. This event frees Chi-you and allows him to gain his powers.

What follows is some cool action, awesome Ghostbusting and some cheesy one liners. I really enjoyed it. Both sets of characters have this goofy overall personality so they played very well in this book. The art work could have been a little better but some of the Ghostbusters looked pretty close to the original actors. This was a fun read and one that goes by very quickly. There isn't much dialogue for a comic because this relies heavily on the action. This was a lot of fun and I give it 4 out of 5 stars. This is definitely a pairing I'd like to see again.

First, I'll tell you what I know about these characters, I've seen both of the Ghostbuster movies, and played the video games. I've seen a good amount of the TMNT 00's show, some of the movies, and just a little bit here and there of their other materials. Ok, on to the review. This matchup is cool, pretty neat to see these characters interact and exchange witty banter. Also, great to see everyone in a semi-modern, but still true to the character's setting. Story was pretty good, the only weakness I think was the villain. Of course they teased a continuation with more prominent threats to the heroes, but we really didn't have a good background to the character. Art was good, the Ghostbusters are perfect in their kind of art style. And the TMNT are the best version yet in my opinion, a modernized version of the early 2000's show. So, as a comics collector, Ghostbusters, and sort of TMNT fan. I recommend you pick this one up. Thanks to Netgalley, Diamond Book Distributors, and IDW Publishing for making this book available for a review.

IDW's version of the TMNT meets IDW's version of the Ghostbusters! Better than most crossovers of this sort, with some nice moments between the two sides, some fun moments for the fans, and an enemy appropriate for both teams. No real complaints here, I was a satisfied customer. (B+)

The immortal bull god Chi-You is cast into another dimension by General Krang and the witch Kitsune. Centuries later the testing of a teleportation device also sends the Turtles, April O'Neill and Casey Jones across dimensions and into the world of the Ghostbusters. The two sets of heroes then have to pool their resources and their ideas to defeat the greatly empowered Chi-You.

There's a bull-aspected god who the Turtles and the Ghostbusters have to fight. That's really all there is to this book in terms of plot.
It's not bad, it's just not big or clever. In fact this crossover more or less plays out the way the old crossovers of the 80s and 90s (Marvel, DC and the like) did, in which the two sets of protagonists meet, take a while to get over their confusion and differences and then spend the rest of the book commenting on how much they like aspects of each others' franchises. Again, it's not bad necessarily but it's not going to blow any minds either.

If all you want is to see April and Janine sharing coffee, Donnie and Egon nerding-it-up together or Mikey using the siren in Ecto-1, then this will tick all of those boxes for you.
As a childhood fan of both of these franchises, once upon a time this crossover, unremarkable as the story is, would've been just what I wanted. These days I tend to expect a bit more of crossovers, however. If two such iconic properties are going to interact, I want them to either have something significant to say about one another or to make some sort of lasting impression on each others' worlds.
None of that is the case here and the result is just... fine.

I think the title of this book says it all. It's not Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles meets Ghostbusters or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Ghostbusters, it's just Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Ghostbusters. As in, "We know you've wanted this crossover since you were nine years old, let's not waste words here."

When I was a kid I used to have all the toys from both of these franchises. I've conceptualized this mash-up many times from my bedroom floor. I had high hopes for this. And let me tell you, the comic does not disappoint.

In this epic story, due to a malfunction in Donatello's new transporter invention, the Ninja Turtles accidentally jump dimensions from their New York City into the Ghostbusters' New York City. And on the way they accidentally release an ancient Japanese god-demon thing that Krang threw into the space between dimensions a couple hundred years ago.

And hilarity ensues!

Seriously though, this thing plays out just it would have if the two '80s cartoons had done a crossover episode. The character designs are different, but the tone of the story and the style of the storytelling are right on.

It's so fun to see the natural bonds form between the teams. Donatello geeking out over tech with Egon. Michelangelo and Ray being the heart that unites the teams. Raphael dishing one-liners with Venkman. Leonardo and Winston standing aside and manufacturing things to do to try to hide the fact they don't really have a thing they do. It's perfect.

If you're a child of the '80s or wish you were, this is definitely worth a read.

I would consider myself a fan of both the Ninja Turtles and the Ghostbusters, so when I saw this comic I had to read it. While the idea seems odd, it didn’t feel weird while I was reading it. The art felt like it belonged in a TMNT comic. The Ghostbusters looked a bit questionable, but they were still identifiable and kept in line with what I’ve seen of the current style for their comic. The reasoning for why the Turtles and the Ghostbusters were in the universe seemed plausible. Everyone had a counterpart in this other universe, which worked well.

One thing that did bother me was my unfamiliarity with the character of Kylie. I’m not familiar with the IDW Ghostbusters comic series, so she was completely new to me and I felt there could have been a bit of exposition there. I will also say the beginning of the story felt fairly unrelated to the rest of the book and the ending felt a bit rushed, but overall, this was a fun crossover for the fans of the two iconic groups. Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with a review copy in exchange for an honest review.
