Technical University of Kenya (TU-K) be public university insyd Nairobi, Kenya.[1] Na dem charter am insyd January 2013 by then-presido Mwai Kibaki.[2]

History

Technical University of Kenya grow out of de Kenya Polytechnic. Dem found de Kenya Polytechnic insyd 1961.[3] Na dem put forward proposals for de establishment of technical institute insyd Nairobi insyd de Willoughby Report dem publish insyd 1949. Dis lead to de creation of de Royal Technical College of East Africa (RTCEA).[4]

Na de objective be make e establish technical college insyd Nairobi wich go offer education den training for de technician den semi-professional levels for de three East African territories of Kenya, Uganda, den Tanganyika. Na then ebe important say for each of de territories insyd der for be students wey sufficiently qualify make dem join RTCEA. While Uganda den Tanganyika establish technical institutes insyd Kampala den Dar es Salaam make e prepare candidates make dem join RTCEA, Kenya opt make e introduce class streams under de name Kenya Technical Institute (KTI) for RTCEA.[5][6]

By 1960 na dem decide say de Royal Technical College of East Africa for expand ein mandate make e offer degrees. Thus insyd 1960, na dem grant de RTCEA de mandate make e offer degrees of de University of London under special arrangement. Under dis fresh status, dem change de college ein name to de Royal College Nairobi.[7]

As de college get make dem expand ein mandate, na e no longer be possible make e continue dey accommodate de students of de Kenya Technical Institute due to pressure for space. Consequently, de Kenya Technical Institute need make e move go site of ein own. For de same time na dem consider dat make dem move de Diploma programmes away from RTCEA go Kenya Technical Institute. Consequently, in order make dem offer as well training for de level of Diploma, de Government establish de Kenya Polytechnic out of de Kenya Technical Institute.

De Kenya Polytechnic establish ein self for de training of middle level manpower insyd de country. E dey locate insyd de Nairobi central business district opposite de Times Tower den along Haile Selassie Avenue next to de City Square Post Office. E dey offer TVET (Technical den Vocational Education den Training) programmes as well as de degree programmes.[8] Among de programmes dem dey offer for TU-K be: DipTech, BTech, BPhil, BEng den BSc.

Insyd July 2009, de university college get de first batch of de programmes of study dem approve by Senate for de University of Nairobi.[9] De curricula dey for de areas of electrical den electronic engineering insyd wey dey comprise de Bachelor of Engineering (B. Eng. in Electrical den Electronic Engineering, Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in Electrical den Electronic Engineering Technology, den de Diploma in Technology (Dip. Tech.) in Electrical den Electronic Engineering.[10]
