The Dec-24 contract was capped by the 200-Day Moving Average in the morning amid intense selling, and it fell before the Polish auction ended and COT was released. Price then climbed in the early afternoon, followed gas closely until closing. The December 24 contract opened the day at €68.72/t, slightly higher than the previous session's finish. It was stopped by the key technical 200 MA in the After Market session before falling after Polish auction results and a negative COT. It rose in the afternoon, tracking TTF gas, and closed at €69.21/t, up €0.57/t from the previous day on the back of a new EEX auction release. Trading volumes increased from the previous day, with 26.34 Mt traded for the December-24 contract on ICE. Political instability in France due to an indecisive first round legislative election may cause volatility in European equity markets, and the EUA market may change direction. The strong EUA volumes indicated by the whole slate of auctions this week will put downward pressure on EUA prices. Gas and carbon have decoupled their link in recent weeks, so the signal from energy fundamentals may be weaker today. Carbon and gas have decoupled from their previously close association since early June, coinciding with the EU elections. The TTF front-year contract closed marginally higher at €38.01/MWh, up 0.12% from the previous close. Technically speaking, this is a neutral signal. The RSI and MACD indicators are both neutral today. The next support levels are the 100-day moving average and lower Bollinger band, which are at €65.45/t and €66.01/t, respectively.
