Ioannina 2030-Mission "Cities"

The Municipality of Ioannina decided to respond to the challenge of the European Commission and to submit a nomination file for the pilot program "100 energy neutral and smart cities". Cities, due to rapid urbanization in recent decades, are at the center of attention for climate change mitigation and adaptation. The right to clean and affordable energy is included among the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and should therefore be guaranteed to every European citizen. The right of future generations of Ioannina to enjoy sustainable cities should form the basis of today's decisions. Through the goal and effort and participation in the program, the city of Ioannina will integrate experiences, funding opportunities and practices to strengthen sustainable urban mobility, save energy in buildings, mitigate climate change, but also to improve the standard of living for all of us. A necessary condition for the success of the transformation of the city is the direct and active support of the state, the central administration, the agencies and the citizens of Ioannina.
