July Heatwave: Major European Cities Experience Record Highs! Paris 🇫🇷 - Paris had a balanced climate, with an almost equal number of days above and below average. - Mid and late July saw exceptionally warm days, over 10°C above average, coinciding with the #Olympics, increasing athlete discomfort. Athens 🇬🇷 - Athens experienced 26 days with temperatures above the climatic average. - 11 of these days were significantly warmer, with temperatures about +5°C higher than normal. Rome 🇮🇹 - Rome recorded 25 days above the average temperature. - 11 days saw temperatures exceed the normal range by +4 to +7°C. Building long-term climate data series is essential for monitoring variations and changes. Our weather stations made it to the #Olympics! Around 40 of our Pulse weather stations (WB3000) have been deployed at the #ParisOlympics. These stations are monitoring weather conditions at select venues, allowing athletes, officials and other stakeholders to be continuously informed of the environmental conditions in areas of interest and especially close to the field of play. When setting up this project, we had two goals in mind: 🌦️ Monitor current conditions to assess discomfort of athletes, officials and spectators, and make informed decisions if extreme heat arises. 📊 Collect data for further research on the heat stress athletes and other relevant stakeholders experience. A quote from Professor Yannis Pitsiladis, Member of the International Olympic Committee – IOC Medical and Scientific Commission: "A major objective of this mainly R&D partnership is to create and make universally available more innovative environmental monitoring solutions to allow the microclimate of competing athletes, officials, and even spectators to be determined in real-time and anywhere in the world where there is connectivity, with particular focus on keeping all these important stakeholders safe when operating in extreme environmental conditions." First station has been deployed in Xochimilco, Mexico by SensorETA, Inc.! Our lead deployment partner in the SwissBorg Alpha Deal, SensorETA, Inc., has successfully deployed the first weather station, with many more to come. Mexico City faces a well-known water crisis. Less known is that Xochimilco, a UNESCO World Heritage site south of Mexico City, is sinking largely due to this crisis. The weather data from this station, along with others their team will deploy, will help farmers, gardeners, and boat owners in #Xochimilco make informed decisions about the ongoing drought issues by utilizing the weather data our stations collect. Xochimilco’s water level faces two major problems: the drought conditions affecting much of the country and the practice of pumping water out of Xochimilco to support the city’s growing population, only to pump back in “treated” water. We hope that with this project, we can bring more stations to underserved areas like Xochimilco and help local farmers prevent losses caused by weather conditions and absence of data. Deploying a weather station in a remote are with no cellular coverage can be challenging, BUT! That's where Helium Foundation and #LoRaWAN come in for our weather stations. #Helium allows us to expand our network by setting up a hotspot or gateway, which is a game-changer for #IoT and #DePIN projects like WeatherXM. This capability lets us deploy a Helium gateway and multiple weather stations around it, ensuring reliable data collection even in the most secluded areas.

Most food production relies on smallholder farmers in countries without #weather infrastructure. They lack vital resources, including weather insurance, leaving their livelihoods vulnerable to weather risks. Our project aims to solve these problems by bringing weather data on-chain and to achieve this, we need to deploy hardware in these regions. The SwissBorg Alpha Deal allowed users to support the deployment of weather stations in underserved areas. By purchasing weather station licenses through SwissBorg, participants enabled us to double the impact with a 2-for-1 station deployment model. This deal not only funds the stations but also rewards participants with $WXM tokens for 36 months, creating a sustainable and supportive system for smallholder farmers. This initiative saw 1,749 participants raise $600,000 in $USDC and $WXM tokens, converting to 2,270 weather stations. These stations will be deployed in 11 countries, improving weather forecasts and providing crypto rewards to farmers and participants, engaging them with this new economy. On July 9th, during EthCC, our weather stations in Brussels accurately predicted sudden storms that traditional weather stations missed. We’re committed to improving weather predictions. Leveraging a dense network of community-powered weather stations, we’ve been providing precise weather services for over 10 years. In the last 2 years as a #DePIN project, we've deployed over 5,600 stations across 80 countries, helping local communities stay informed and prepared while also rewarding them with $WXM tokens for their contributions for owning the stations and providing the data.
