This starkly reveals the media's failure as a neutral investigator, where power and money overshadowed truth and integrity. Why did people unquestioningly trust? Why accept restrictive measures and vaccines without scrutiny? Why comply with job loss or vaccination mandates? These questions demand introspection on societal trust and the imperative to resist manipulation.

To reclaim autonomy, we must demand accountability and reject passivity. Turning off biased sources and actively filtering information are crucial initial steps. Ultimately, regaining control over our lives is paramount. Surrendering to control renders us puppets, subject to manipulation at will. True freedom lies in refusing to be manipulated and taking charge of our destinies.

In my next book, we are reflecting on a very unsettling reality. Armies and militias globally recruit thousands of children as soldiers, with numbers doubling since 2012 (CSI, 2019). More than 300,000 children serve in the armed forces, with over 7,740 newly recruited in 2019 alone (Wuilbercq, 2021).

This book unveils a chilling narrative where children are kidnapped, and coerced into roles from soldiers to sex slaves. From the war-torn landscapes of Ukraine, Afghanistan, and Syria, to enduring crises in Africa, children are not mere witnesses but unwilling participants, their lives traded for bullets and blood.

This forthcoming book delves into the heart of this global injustice across a selection of countries, exposing ruthless tactics, enduring psychological scars, and the trauma that lingers long after guns fall silent. It amplifies the courageous efforts of individuals and organizations fighting to free child soldiers, mend their shattered psyches, and rebuild their lives.

More than a reflection, this book is a call to action, urging the media to amplify the voices of the voiceless, piercing the veil of apathy. It implores international organizations to translate policy into action, prioritizing the protection of children caught in the crossfire of conflict. The main hypothesis is that since mass media have the ability to transmit information; produce publicly constituted surveillance processes and influence public opinion, they also hold the capacity to also support early warning signs of crises. This can be facilitated through real-time reporting and project development that will create a vigorous global network of human monitors to inspire popular support and the necessary pressure to deploy a peacekeeping operation. To support her hypothesis, the author has used both primary and secondary research, including the review & analysis of 21 books, 24 interviews, 134 survey respondents and 4 basic case studies - that of Somalia, Bosnia, Rwanda and FYROM. This event aimed to present and discuss the final findings and recommendations of the Study on eGovernment and the Reduction of Administrative Burden and relevant EU Member States’ experiences on the matter. The purpose of this event was twofold:

Issue 21 called ‘mHealth Regulatory Environments’, was comprised of six papers written from authors from Australia, Spain, Greece, USA, Belgium, and Netherlands. The first five of these were concerned with the regulations and certification of mHealth applications, or ‘apps’, software which utilise smartphone platforms to deliver specific types of patient care and management. The rapid evolution of mobile communication devices and their supporting systems has opened up a vast market for healthcare apps. However, many contributors were concerned that the standards and regulations have not kept pace with the technology, bringing problems to manufacturers, healthcare services and patients alike. The papers described the status quo from diverse perspectives and various responses to this state of affairs, primarily by proposing approaches, strategies and frameworks according to which the healthcare authorities should or could act to improve the standards and regulations. The final paper approached the potential of mHealth from a totally different perspective, by taking up a more academic and sociological approach to the issues of communication in mHealth systems. A person’s digital identity can be defined as the collection of all digital information about or related to the person. Social interaction, shopping, entertainment, Government services – are all increasingly performed through digital means, and all depend on, create and use digital identity information. Emerging technologies and services currently allow users to trace their personal data stored by public administrations. Technology acts as an enabler for users who can check who accesses their administrative files thus giving them an insight in the process of decision making; one of the most demanded eGovernment services.

The target is to widen the scope of use of the electronic means that public administrations have at their disposal outside the local, regional or national level. A further aim is to facilitate mobility of businesses and citizens i.e. for entrepreneurs to set up and run a business anywhere in Europe and allowing individuals to study, work, reside, receive health care and retire anywhere in the European Union. To achieve seamless cross-border eGovernment services in the single market, many building blocks should be considered. An important pre-requisite is to ensure the interoperability and sustainability of common services and generic tools developed and demonstrated in large scale pilots; compliance with national and international regulations is crucial as well. The first step to design interoperable and sustainable cross-border services is to identify the real user needs, either from the citizens’ or businesses' perspective. This event discussed the achieved benefits and public value created through the joint production of services by public administrations and citizens. The second session addressed the interim findings of the study launched by DG INFSO H2, European Commission. The study addresses key questions such as: "Is collaborative e-government just a hype, or a well-founded and EU-wide trend"? "Does it involve only a minority of highly engaged people"? "Does it bring actual benefits to citizens, civil servants, public administration and companies"? "What are the risks"? And last but not least: "what should European government do"?
