Student Council

The Student Council of Hindustan University is a dynamic body comprised of Selected student representatives who serve as the voice of the student body. Charged with the responsibility of representing student interests, fostering campus community, and facilitating positive change, the council plays a crucial role in shaping the university experience for its students.

Led by a diverse group of student leaders, the Student Council serves as a bridge between the student community and The Office of Student Affairs, advocating for student concerns, organizing events and initiatives, and promoting a vibrant campus culture.

One of the primary functions of the Student Council is to facilitate communication between students and The Office of Student Affairs. By gathering feedback, addressing grievances, and advocating for student needs, the council ensures that the student voice is heard and considered in decision-making processes at all levels of the university.

Furthermore, the Student Council is instrumental in organizing a wide range of events and activities that enrich the university experience. From cultural festivals and academic seminars to community service projects and sporting events, these initiatives contribute to the holistic development of students and foster a sense of belonging within the campus community.

Additionally, the Student Council plays a key role in promoting student welfare and well-being. Through initiatives such as peer support programs, mental health awareness campaigns, and student assistance services, the council strives to create a supportive and inclusive environment where all students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

CHANCELLOR’S WORK AS YOU STUDY SCHEME
(WAYS)

Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese, Chancellor, Chairman, HGI has mooted the
idea of introducing the Work as You Study (WAYS) Scheme in HITS. This
scheme, popularly known as the Earn While You Learn (EWYL) Scheme and
implemented in selected Government funded State Universities. As a leading
private University, the Management of HITS has taken a step forward to
empower the youth through employment within the University Campus. The
scheme will be launched and implemented from the academic year 2020-21.
For the first time, as a leading private University, HITS shoulders its
responsibility to support the student community by providing part-time
employment to an enrolled student in the University, enabling her/him earn to
pay educational expenses. The students selected under this scheme will be
known as Campus Student Ambassador (CSA). WAYS Scheme is managed
and fully funded by HITS Management by mobilizing its own resources. In
future, attempts will be made to further expand this scheme to enhance the
opportunities in partnership with private and government agencies, including
International bodies.

Benefits of WAYS
a) Provides opportunities to students to earn while learning to meet their
expenses.
b) Gives students hands on experience and confidence, thereby prepares
them better for taking up jobs in future.
c) Adds value to the Resume of the students.
d) Helps to exploit the immense potential of students as a valuable human
resource.
e) Prospers belongingness and encourages involvement of the students in
management and development of the Institution.
f) Helps inculcate in the students the values of hard work and dignity of
labour.
g) Prevent students from avoidable distractions and engage them in
meaningful, positive activities.
h) Develop interpersonal relations, and cultivate social skills, increase
industrial contacts, improve self-confidence, job knowledge, job-seeking
skills, attitudes towards practical reasoning, develop greater maturity, and
demonstrate competencies.


NORMS FOR SELECTING CAMPUS STUDENT AMBASSADOR (CSA)
1. Only residential students are eligible to apply.
2. Students can apply for the scheme starting from the 2 nd Semester of
Their study.
3. Student must have a minimum of 6 CGPA with no standing arrears.
4. Attendance percentage should be minimum 75% in the previous
semester.
5. There should not be any disciplinary action against the student in
the
past.
6. No Student will be given selection for not more than 2 semesters
continuously.
7. Students must produce a Letter of Recommendation from the Class
Teacher or HoD.
8. Students with demonstrated skills and or Experience Certificates will
be given priority.

MODALITIES FOR IMPLEMENTING WAYS SCHEME
1. From the shortlisted applicants, a pool of maximum 20 students will be
selected as the Campus Student Ambassador.
2. Preference will be given to students from Non Engineering Streams. Out
of the 20 candidates, 13 students will be chosen from Non Engineering
streams and 7 students from Engineering Streams.
3. The Selected Campus Ambassador will directly report to Dean Student
Affairs and this scheme will be directly under his/her supervision.
4. The selected students will be assigned their duties in the following fields.
a. LIBRARY b. HOSTEL c. SPORTS d. INTERNATIONAL
OFFICE e. ADMISSION OFFICE f. COMPUTING FACILITY
5. Selected students will be provided free boarding and lodging for a
semester.
6. Accommodation will be shared with another student ambassador and not
with regular students.
7. The performance of Campus Student Ambassador will be evaluated every
semester.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS TO THE APPLICANTS
The details of the scheme along with the eligibility norms and procedure
to apply will be uploaded in the University Website.
Eligible students can download the application from the webpage and
apply via online with necessary attachments and the filled in application
must reach the Office of Student Affairs by email
([email protected]) .
The received applications will be scrutinized by the selection committee
and the shortlisted candidates will be intimated.
The selected CSA will be assigned appropriate Part-Time jobs based on
the requirements of the Institution.
All the selected students have to sign the agreement and give an
undertaking to follow the regulations under the scheme.
The shortlisted students will be issued offer letter.
The scheme will be strictly monitored with emphasis on the attendance
and work completion report.
Students must also submit a “Self-Appraisal” report on how he/she
benefited from the scheme along with their feedback.

Counselling and Well-being Center

HITS aims at preparing the students for the challenges of the global world. Emotional Maturity is a major concern in the modern era. To mould our students into a wholistic personality we have a well established Counselling and Well Being Center in the campus, handled by professionally trained Counselors. Through this service, the students are supported to deal with:

Academic Challenges: Lack of motivation to study, time management and exam preparation.

Behavioeral Challenges: Addictions, Peer Pressure.

Emotional Challenges: Managing anger, stress, anxiety and sadness.

Social Challenges: Adjustments in the hostel, handling conflicts with peers and authorities and relationship challenges.

Proactive sessions are conducted in groups. Regular interaction with the hostelers by the Counselors is an additional support offered to the students.

In addition to this we also have mentoring services rendered by the faculty members who along with the teaching are a part of the mentorship program. Each student is assigned a mentor, who would provide constant support to the student. A ratio of 1:20 is maintained in the mentorship program. NCC Annual Training Camp 2023 | Date : 5-14 July 2023

The NCC Annual Training Camp was held for ten days at the Bay Range Capus between 5-14 July 2023. The camp was organized by the HITS NCC Army Wing. The training camp witnessed active participation of Cadets from various colleges and schools, with a total of 516 participants, including 1 Army officer, 6 Army personnel, 10 Associate NCC Officers, and 500 NCC cadets. The primary objective of the training camp was to provide a comprehensive training and development to the participating NCC cadets. The focus was on physical fitness, discipline, military training, personality development, cultural activities, sports activities, and various other skills to shape them into responsible and competent individuals. 

Cadets from different schools and colleges reported at the camp site and were introduced to all the PI staff, ANO’s, seniors and batchmates from other institutions and juniors from different schools. The inaugural address was delivered by Colonel Jobee Philip, Camp Commandant. A guest lecture on public speaking was delivered by Commodore Atul Kumar Rastogi followed by an interactive session with DDG and Students. In addition to this, the general instructions on Service Selection Board (SSB) and Mock SSB interview were conducted by DDG for the SD & SW from different institution. 

The closing address was delivered by the Camp Commandant. This was followed by cultural events. Dr. S. N. Sridhara, Vice Chancellor distributed the prizes to the winners of the various competitions.

Flood Relief Support | 8 December 2023

HITS brings hope to the hearts submerged in despair!

Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science contributed generously by helping those affected by the recent flood in Chennai on 8 December 2023. Making a difference through compassion, the NSS and NCC Cells of HITS in collaboration with KCG Fashion Bank, took a step towards aiding the people residing in flood-affected areas in and around Pallikaranai. The team distributed pre-used clothes. 

The NSS Cell of HITS, in collaboration with Y's Men's Club of Chennai OMR and Y's Men's Club of Hindustan Youth on December 9 2023 distributed relief materials at Pallikkarai for those in need. They distributed essential relief materials, such as food supplies, clothing, and other necessities. 

This collective effort aimed to provide comfort and support to the resilient community of Pallikaranai during this challenging time. With the invaluable contributions from KCG Fashion Bank and the dedication of the volunteers, the team was able to reach out and offer essential clothing items to those in need. Witnessing the smiles and gratitude of the recipients reaffirmed the belief in the power of kindness and solidarity.

RYLA Rotary Youth Leadership Awards | 2 – 4 February 2024

RYLA, the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards was hosted by the Rotaract Clubs of Hindustan University along with Hindustan College of Arts and Science, KCG College of Technology, Chennai Capital, and HIET. The event was held at HITS Campus on 2 - 4 February 2024. The event was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Chennai Capital and was presided by Rtn. Mahaveer Bothara, District Governor Elect of RI District 3233, and Rtn. Satya Rao (President RCCC). The Guest of Honours were Rtn. Alan Bartley Youth service Director (RCCC), Rtn. Suresh Andrews (Rotaract Chairman of RCCC), and Rtn. Pranav Linali (Secretary RCCC). The special invitees were Rtr. PP. Essaki Sekar (DRR), Rtr.PP. Sasi Kumar (DRRE) and many other special speakers graced the occasion. More than 100 Rotaractors attended the event fervour and enthusiastically attended the event. 

RYLA was all about giving an intensive leadership Experience to improve leadership qualities and skills through fun and team activities along with amazing sessions by expert speakers. Team and fun activities like Management Games, Fire Camp were conducted to develop strong team bonds, learn leadership skills and establish fellowship. The three days camp was an eye opener for the young budding leaders.

NSS Special Camp | 12 – 18 August 2023

Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science continues to make significant strides in fostering community development through a series of impactful initiatives in Sembaakkam Village, situated near Thirupporur. Over the span of 7 days, spanning from 12 – 18 August 2023, the Institution orchestrated a diverse range of activities, solidifying its commitment to excellence in education and social welfare.

This eventful week commenced with a notable inauguration on 12 August 2023 where Dr. S.N. Sridhara, the esteemed Vice Chancellor led the ceremonial flag hoisting. The spirit of cleanliness and civic responsibility resonated among participants, including students from esteemed institutions, government schools, and colleges. Their enthusiastic participation in essay writing, painting competitions, and debates centred around the theme "Clean India" marked a fitting tribute to Independence Day. The recognition of over 100 outstanding students was a highlight of the event, with prizes and awards presented by Mr. Pon Ramalingam, President of Chennai Hindustan Rotary Club, and Mr. Saravanan, President of Sembaakkam Panchayat. In furtherance of their commitment, HITS organized a beach cleaning awareness camp in Mahabalipuram on the same day, underlining their commitment to environmental stewardship.

On 16 August 2023 a remarkable event unfolded with Shankara Nethralaya Eye Hospital extending its caring touch to offer free eye check-ups and ocular care to over 100 community members. The impact of the camp was magnified by the distribution of 12 eyeglasses and facilitating free cataract surgeries for 15 individuals in need. The inauguration of this camp was graced by Dr. J. W. Alexander Jesudasan, Pro Vice Chancellor.

Adding momentum to their welfare initiatives, the HITS collaborated with Ragas Dental College and Hospital to host a dental camp on 17 August 2023. Benefiting more than 100 members of the community, the camp provided free dental check-ups, vital oral health awareness, and complimentary oral care kits. This commitment to holistic health extended to the organization of a Veterinary camp on 18 August 2023 in partnership with the Animal Husbandry Department, Chengalpattu, at Acharapakkam village. 

Emphasizing the importance of road safety, an insightful campaign was meticulously orchestrated on August 18th, in collaboration with Thiruporur Traffic Police. Dr. Angelina Geetha, Dean of the Engineering and Technology department, inaugurated the campaign. This endeavour aimed to educate and promote responsible road behaviour among the local youth, amplifying adherence to road safety regulations. 
Underscoring their dedication to environmental conservation,HITS embarked on a laudable venture—planting 77 fruit-bearing trees, including mango, jackfruit, and guava, within the Sembaakkam region. This eco-conscious initiative seeks to nurture the surroundings while providing sustenance to the local community.

In a demonstration of commitment to educational infrastructure, the Instituion donated 5 green boards to government schools and transformed the visual appeal of Anganwadi and primary school buildings with vibrant wall paintings. Additionally, a physiotherapy camp in association with the Department of Physiotherapy and a fashion bank event in collaboration with KCG Fashion Bank were successfully organized on 19 August 2023.

The entire camp was successfully coordinated by Mr. K. Gnanasekaran, NSS Coordinator, whose efforts played a pivotal role in the seamless execution of these initiatives. These initiatives stand as a testament to the dedication of HITS to academic excellence and its enduring commitment to social well-being and sustainable development. The University’s proactive role within the community serves as a compelling model of how educational institutions can serve as catalysts for positive change.

HITS NSS and NCC Join the "One Crore Palm Seed Plantation" at Kovalam Beach! | Date: 1 October 2023

The National Service Scheme (NSS) and National Cadet Corps (NCC) of Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS) united with the Tamil Nadu Government for a remarkable environmental initiative. They participated in the "One Crore Palm Seed Plantation" event at the picturesque Kovalam Beach. With more than 200 enthusiastic students, the team ventured to the seashores to plant palm seeds. Our collective effort not only contributes to the beauty of our coastline but also plays a vital role in preserving our environment. This event is a testament to the power of youth coming together for a greener, cleaner, and healthier tomorrow. It is a step towards a sustainable future we can all be proud of.

Teacher’s Day at Panchayat Union Primary School | Date: 5 September 2023

On 5th September 2023, Teacher's Day was joyously celebrated at Panchayat Union Primary School in Thirupporur by the NSS (National Service Scheme) cell of HITS. The event was a tribute to the dedicated educators who shape young minds. Ms. Beena James, Head i/c of Student Affairs, and Ms. Ranjana, a respected Professor in MCA, graced the occasion and presented thoughtful gifts to the esteemed school teachers.

In the spirit of promoting creativity and awareness, a drawing competition was organized in the focusing on the theme "Swachh" (cleanliness). Prizes were distributed to the talented young participants who showcased their artistic skills and dedication to the cause of cleanliness. More than 20 enthusiastic NSS volunteers actively took part in organizing and managing this memorable event, demonstrating their commitment to community service and education. It was a heartwarming celebration that highlighted the importance of both teachers and student involvement in shaping a brighter future.

Band-Ex – Winners of Battle of Bands at CHEMFEST 2023 | 22 July 2023

The University music band named “Band-Ex” clenched the first position in the Battle of Bands contest held during the CHEMFEST 2023, an intercollegiate National Level Cultural Fest held on 22 July 2023. Band-Ex contested with a total of thirty-two bands from various institutions across the nation. Their performance was mainly focussed on fusion music. The team comprised of

Emergence 2023 | Date : 4 November 2023

On the dynamic morning of 4 November 2023, the MGR auditorium at Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS) resonated with enthusiasm and expectation as the first-year understudies of BBA and SOL showcased their exceptional abilities amid the much-anticipated "EMERGENCE ‘23” occasion. Chief Guest, Dr. Ravi Margasahayam, Space Great Will Ambassador NASA.

In his compelling address, Dr. Ravi Margasahayam emphasized the importance of failures and to see all that as successful failures, gave an illustration of that he couldn't gotten to be a pilot but he sent numerous to space. He said to continuously carry aptitude, intelligence, and Knowledge along your life. He also remembered his interaction with APJ Abdul Kalam. Communicated his adore towards family. Gave three imperative focuses to keep in mind in life To begin with, is The Regard to realize anything, moment is Fear, continuously being prepared to confront it and the final one is to require the calculated sum of chance

The event started with a sincere prayer by Rev. Justin Jose, who is the Student Chaplain, followed by "Tamizh Thai Vaazhthu". The event started with a beautiful performance of the University Anthem and the awarding of the Dr. KCG can be rewritten as Kansas City Gold. The Verghese documentary showed how the founder made a lasting impact.

Dr. Karuppasamy Ramanathan, Dean of School of Management, gave a friendly welcome to the new students. He talked about the chances and international experiences they can have at HITS. He thought about his time in college and how his parents and teachers supported him. He thanked the Students Affairs department for organizing all the college events. He asked the students to be modest while they are studying. Ms. Beena James, Head Student Affairs i/c, presented the introduction of the Chief Guest.

The freshmen showcased their talents through dance, music, ramp walk, and singing.  Emergence’23 came to a magnificent close, leaving everyone in awe. The air was filled with a sense of patriotism as the Indian National Anthem echoed through the venue, stirring the souls of all those present. This powerful rendition not only brought a feeling of unity but also instilled a deep sense of pride among the attendees. It was a truly remarkable moment, symbolizing the triumphant end of an incredible event.

Festival of Chennai

The musical extravaganza called ‘Music on Wheels’, as part of The Hindu’s ‘Festival of Chennai’ is making waves across the city

A double-decker bus, which is touring across the city, is hosting music shows at various hotspots.
It reached the Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science to celebrate the 384th anniversary of Chennai. This year, to bring the flavors that define the city, iconic structures that have stood the test of time, and the transport systems from the past till the present that not only aided in commute but also served as lifelines at times of crisis.

Furthermore, the audience can go inside the bus and catch glimpses of The Hindu’s Archival Photo Exhibits on Madras, thoughtfully cataloged to cherish the birth month of the city.
The  Festival of Chennai music performances received a roaring reception from the students.

The student took a picture of the bus and shared it on social media with #MadeOfChennai to win exciting goodies.
They took a tour inside the bus and reminisced about Chennai’s yesteryear with The Hindu’s Archival Photo Exhibit that is on display.

Music on Wheels is truly a celebration of Chennai’s people, music, and culture. With local bands, film music, and indie artists, it only keeps getting better.

Fiesta ’23 | Date : 14 October 2023

Fiesta ’23 – the fresher’s day for the freshmen of the School of Engineering and Technology was celebrated on 14 October 2023. The celebration aims to showcase the talents of the budding engineers. The Chief Guest for the day was Dr. S. Thirumagan, Principal, Hindustan College of Arts and Science. 

The Chief Guest began his speech with his greetings to the students and thanked the Management for inviting him to the campus. He conducted a general knowledge quiz for the student audience. Dr. Thirumagan also shared his experience during his college days. He urged the students to utilize the facilities and opportunities offered by the college in order to be successful in life.

In his presidential address, Dr. S. N. Sridhara, Vice Chancellor encouraged the students to utilize their energy for their own development and thereby bring out the best in themselves. Dr. Muthukumar Subramanian, Registrar, in his felicitation address conveyed his wishes to the freshmen and said that they have made the right choice of joining HITS for their higher education.

The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Angelina Geetha, Dean, School of Engineering and Technology. The freshmen witnessed an inspiring video presentation on the Founder Chairman (Late) Dr. K. C. G. Verghese. The opening prayer was offered by Rev. Justin Jose, Student Chaplain. Ms. Beena James, Head – Students Affairs presented the introduction of the Chief Guest. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. K.S. Shaji Dean of Student Affairs.

On October 13, The Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science, Padur, hosted a heartfelt Thanksgiving event to celebrate the prestigious NAAC A+ Accreditation. The occasion was graced by esteemed guests, faculty members, and jubilant students.

The event commenced with a warm tribute to the dedicated Library Department and the diligent Student Coordinators who played pivotal roles in this success. It was highlighted that in 2021, the percentage of full-time teachers stood at 46%, contributing significantly to the institution's remarkable progress.

During the event, the NAAC team's evaluation process was discussed, emphasizing the institution's high marks and the impressive success rate of its students, particularly in the realm of sports and games.

Pro Vice-Chancellor, Alexander Jesudasan, and Elizabeth Jesudasan were honored with bouquets, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to the institution's growth. Chancellor Ashok Vargese shared inspiring success stories of students, emphasizing the need for students to seek diverse experiences in the professional realm. He expressed his gratitude to the teachers and management, with a special mention of KCG Verghese for his unwavering support.

The Vice-Chancellor presented a bouquet to Aby Sam, recognizing his significant contributions. Founder Chancellor Elizabeth delivered a felicitation address, commending the institution's monumental achievement. The Chancellor appreciated the hard work and dedication of all those involved, citing it as a momentous milestone for the institution.

An appreciation ceremony ensued, honoring notable achievers including R. Ashokan from the Department of Aerospace Engineering, Dr. Angelina Geetha for NAAC criteria, Dr. K. Ranjana from the Computer Science and Engineering Department, Dr. Malana, and Dr. Antony, the Deputy Director, on behalf of E. Kamalesh Kumar.

Notable faculty members were also recognized, including Dr. Push Ravi, Assistant St. Paul, N. Praabahakar from the Department of Chemistry, Dr. Smuel, Associate Professor of Food Technology, and B. Hariram from the Department of Mechanical Engineering. NCC's Dr. T. Shanmuga Naadhar, Assistant Automobile, was acknowledged for his remarkable contribution.

Ponramalingam delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants, contributors, and attendees.

The day concluded with a lively cake-cutting ceremony, accompanied by a breathtaking dance performance that left the audience in awe. The energy and enthusiasm of the students resonated throughout the event, signifying the vibrant spirit of the institution's community.

The NAAC A+ Accreditation Thanksgiving event at Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science, Padur, was indeed a testament to the institution's unwavering commitment to excellence and academic distinction.

During the event, an array of captivating performances by talented students added fervor to the celebration. Notably, Bhuvanesh, Durai Murugan, and Divakar showcased their exceptional skills in a mesmerizing Silambattam performance, leaving the audience spellbound.

Additionally, a remarkable music performance by Prajeet Tracy, Mark Aruliah, Prathik, Uthkarsh, Stuti, Anbu, and Joshua George set the stage alight with their harmonious melodies, captivating the hearts of all in attendance.

The graceful classical dance performed by R. Vaishnavi from the B.arch department,Siva Priya from the ASP-B department, Y. Ranga Priya from the Aero-A department, Vaishnavi Nair from the ASP-A department, and Madhumitha, also from ASP-A, added a touch of elegance and cultural richness to the event, captivating the audience and earning heartfelt applause. These performances collectively showcased the vibrant and diverse talents of the student body, reflecting the institution's commitment to nurturing all facets of holistic development.

Pongal Celebration 2024 – Date : 13 January 2024

HITS celebrated the Tamil harvest festival – Pongal on 13 January 2024. The chief guest for the celebration was Thiru. G. Selvam, Member of Parliament, Kanchipuram Constituency and the guest of Honour was Thiru S. S. Balaji, Member of Legislative Assembly, Thiruporur Constituency. The event was graced by the presence of Mrs. K. A. S. Thara Sudhakar, President, Padur Panchayat, Dr. Muthukumar Subramanian, Registrar, Dr. Pon. Ramalingam, Director, IQAC, University Officials, staff and students attended the event. All the dignitaries participated in Pongal making event. They also appreciated the University in conducting traditional festivals which propagate the Tamil culture and tradition among the youth. 
As part of the celebration, many traditional games were conducted for the staff, students and the wards of the faculty members. Participants enjoyed the bullock cart and tractor ride around the campus. The Pongal recipe prepared by the staff members was served to the participants. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the games. The event also witnessed the performance of mayilattam, maadatam, karakaattam, thaapaattam that were performed by professionals. The celebration concluded with the DJ concert. 

PONNONAM 2023 | Date: 19 August 2023

The Ponnonam 2023 was celebrated in the Bay Range Campus on 19 August 2023. The celebration was graced by the presence of Mr. Ashok Verghese, Pro Chancellor; Dr. R. W. Alexander Jesudasan, Pro Vice Chancellor; Dr. K. S. Shaji, Dean, Ms. Beena James, Head (i/c) – Student Affairs; Deans, Heads of Departments, staff and students.

In his Onam message, Mr. Ashok Verghese conveyed his Onam wishes to the august gathering and welcomed the Thirumali Music Band. He then pointed out that the state of Kerala is a beautiful land that holds rich tradition and culture. He then narrated a personal experience where he had to travel alongside the Chief Minister, a few prominent statesmen and high-profile personalities of Kerala. Mr. Verghese said that this gesture of them exhibited their humility and insists that as citizens it is the responsibility of every citizen to take care of these. As charity begins at home, it is the responsibility of the youth to respect and honour the aged. He also informed that the total student strength at Hindustan Group of Institutions has increased to 20,000. He also encouraged students to participate in all the events hosted inhouse.  
Dr. R. W. Alexander Jesudasan, in his felicitation address said that Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science is a secular Institution that celebrates all religious and regional festivals with equal importance. He informed the gathering that HITS has launched two new programmes viz., School of Pharmacy and School of Nursing and has plans to commence the School of Performing Arts. He encouraged the students to participate in music competitions in order to win laurels to the Institution. He concluded his speech with his Onam wishes. 

The celebration commenced with an invocation song rendered by Ms. Kiran, Research Scholar, Department of Chemistry followed by the welcome address by Ms. Alisha Jamal, IV-year Aerospace Engineering. The enthralled audience were entertained by a professional Kathakali dancer and the Chenda Melam performers. They also witnessed the Thiruvathira Dance and the traditional Mohiniattam. To add to the excitement, a massive students’ flash mob dazzled the audience. The pinnacle of the day was a scintillating music concert by Thirumali and Thudweiser, leaving everyone enchanted. The highlight of this event was the grand Onam Sadhya, a feast for the senses, showcasing the rich culinary traditions of Kerala. The celebration concluded with the vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. K Mathew, IV-year Electronics and Communication Engineering.

TEACHER’S DAY ’23 | Date : 7 September 2023

The vibrant and prestigious “Teacher’s Day '23” was held on 7 September 2023 at the MGR Auditorium. The event was jointly organized by Dr. K S Shaji, Dean, Student Affairs, Mrs. Beena James Head - of Student Affairs, Mr. Royson, Cultural Co-Ordinator and Office of Student Affairs, and Mr. C Santhosh, Music instructor were key individuals in organizing the programme.

The event commenced with Opening Prayer by Rev. Justin Jose, Student Chaplain by Tamil Thai Vazhthu. 
The event then proceeded to the Welcome Address delivered by the most respected Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr. R.W. Alexander Jesudasan. This was followed by the unraveling of the movie trailer “Konjam Pesinall Yenna” by the Team behind the movie. The audience were captivated by the trailer. They were enthralled by an amazing musical concert performed by the special Team Konjam Pesinall Yenna for everyone present. The concert was vibrant and pulsating with energy, making the audience thrilled with excitement.

After which the most important part of the celebration took place. As a token of gratitude and appreciation HITS took the golden opportunity to acknowledge the hard work, dedication and passion of School teachers in the City of Chennai. Each Teacher was presented a beautiful citation which is an official report mentioning their praiseworthy contribution in the field of education, a beautiful memento, and a generous cash price of Rs. 10,000. The event then came to an end followed by a few more songs played by the Team Konjam Pesinall Yenna and the audience dispersing after.

VIBRANCE 2023 - Freshers Talent Hunt at HITS | Date: 28 October 2023

On the vibrant morning of 28 October 2023, the MGR Auditorium at Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS) reverberated with excitement and anticipation as the first-year students of Liberal Arts, Applied Sciences, and SAHS showcased their remarkable talents during the much-anticipated "VIBRANCE 2023 - Freshers Talent Hunt" event.

The Chief Guest for the event was Mr. Anant Melatur, an illustrious alumnus of HITS (Mech-1998) and the Regional Director of Boeing India. Mr. Anant Melatur, in his compelling address, emphasized the significance of curiosity in students, emphasizing that being curious is more important than securing high marks. He encouraged students to delve into what drives them and make the most of the access and facilities available at HITS.

The event commenced with the opening prayer offered by Rev. Justin Jose, the Student Chaplain. The resonant notes of "Tamizh Thai Vaazhthu" filled the air, paying homage to the rich cultural heritage of Tamil Nadu. The event proceeded with the stirring rendition of the University Anthem, accompanied by the presentation of the Dr. K.C.G. Verghese documentary, which served as a testament to the enduring legacy and contributions of the esteemed founder.

Dr. David T. Easow, the Deputy Director of International Affairs, extended a warm welcome to the fresh minds, emphasizing the opportunities and global exposure awaiting them at HITS. He highlighted the various international programmes, including industrial visits, internships abroad, dual degree programs, joint degree programs, and the International Language and Cultural Centre, encouraging students to broaden their horizons and engage in diverse learning experiences. 

In his inaugural address, Dr. R.W. Alexander Jesudasan, the Pro Vice Chancellor, emphasized that education goes beyond textbooks and examinations. He underscored HITS's role in nurturing students into holistic individuals, citing examples of iconic figures like Sachin Tendulkar and Bill Gates, and urged students to appreciate and nurture their unique talents while finding a purpose in their lives. 

Later the day, the freshmen entertained the audience with cultural events such as classical dance, fusion, music, and martial arts. The event concluded with the National Anthem.

Student Council

The Student Council of Hindustan University is a dynamic body comprised of Selected student representatives who serve as the voice of the student body. Charged with the responsibility of representing student interests, fostering campus community, and facilitating positive change, the council plays a crucial role in shaping the university experience for its students.

Led by a diverse group of student leaders, the Student Council serves as a bridge between the student community and The Office of Student Affairs, advocating for student concerns, organizing events and initiatives, and promoting a vibrant campus culture.

One of the primary functions of the Student Council is to facilitate communication between students and The Office of Student Affairs. By gathering feedback, addressing grievances, and advocating for student needs, the council ensures that the student voice is heard and considered in decision-making processes at all levels of the university.

Furthermore, the Student Council is instrumental in organizing a wide range of events and activities that enrich the university experience. From cultural festivals and academic seminars to community service projects and sporting events, these initiatives contribute to the holistic development of students and foster a sense of belonging within the campus community.

Additionally, the Student Council plays a key role in promoting student welfare and well-being. Through initiatives such as peer support programs, mental health awareness campaigns, and student assistance services, the council strives to create a supportive and inclusive environment where all students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

CHANCELLOR’S WORK AS YOU STUDY SCHEME
(WAYS)

Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese, Chancellor, Chairman, HGI has mooted the
idea of introducing the Work as You Study (WAYS) Scheme in HITS. This
scheme, popularly known as the Earn While You Learn (EWYL) Scheme and
implemented in selected Government funded State Universities. As a leading
private University, the Management of HITS has taken a step forward to
empower the youth through employment within the University Campus. The
scheme will be launched and implemented from the academic year 2020-21.
For the first time, as a leading private University, HITS shoulders its
responsibility to support the student community by providing part-time
employment to an enrolled student in the University, enabling her/him earn to
pay educational expenses. The students selected under this scheme will be
known as Campus Student Ambassador (CSA). WAYS Scheme is managed
and fully funded by HITS Management by mobilizing its own resources. In
future, attempts will be made to further expand this scheme to enhance the
opportunities in partnership with private and government agencies, including
International bodies.

Benefits of WAYS
a) Provides opportunities to students to earn while learning to meet their
expenses.
b) Gives students hands on experience and confidence, thereby prepares
them better for taking up jobs in future.
c) Adds value to the Resume of the students.
d) Helps to exploit the immense potential of students as a valuable human
resource.
e) Prospers belongingness and encourages involvement of the students in
management and development of the Institution.
f) Helps inculcate in the students the values of hard work and dignity of
labour.
g) Prevent students from avoidable distractions and engage them in
meaningful, positive activities.
h) Develop interpersonal relations, and cultivate social skills, increase
industrial contacts, improve self-confidence, job knowledge, job-seeking
skills, attitudes towards practical reasoning, develop greater maturity, and
demonstrate competencies.


NORMS FOR SELECTING CAMPUS STUDENT AMBASSADOR (CSA)
1. Only residential students are eligible to apply.
2. Students can apply for the scheme starting from the 2 nd Semester of
Their study.
3. Student must have a minimum of 6 CGPA with no standing arrears.
4. Attendance percentage should be minimum 75% in the previous
semester.
5. There should not be any disciplinary action against the student in
the
past.
6. No Student will be given selection for not more than 2 semesters
continuously.
7. Students must produce a Letter of Recommendation from the Class
Teacher or HoD.
8. Students with demonstrated skills and or Experience Certificates will
be given priority.

MODALITIES FOR IMPLEMENTING WAYS SCHEME
1. From the shortlisted applicants, a pool of maximum 20 students will be
selected as the Campus Student Ambassador.
2. Preference will be given to students from Non Engineering Streams. Out
of the 20 candidates, 13 students will be chosen from Non Engineering
streams and 7 students from Engineering Streams.
3. The Selected Campus Ambassador will directly report to Dean Student
Affairs and this scheme will be directly under his/her supervision.
4. The selected students will be assigned their duties in the following fields.
a. LIBRARY b. HOSTEL c. SPORTS d. INTERNATIONAL
OFFICE e. ADMISSION OFFICE f. COMPUTING FACILITY
5. Selected students will be provided free boarding and lodging for a
semester.
6. Accommodation will be shared with another student ambassador and not
with regular students.
7. The performance of Campus Student Ambassador will be evaluated every
semester.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS TO THE APPLICANTS
The details of the scheme along with the eligibility norms and procedure
to apply will be uploaded in the University Website.
Eligible students can download the application from the webpage and
apply via online with necessary attachments and the filled in application
must reach the Office of Student Affairs by email
([email protected]) .
The received applications will be scrutinized by the selection committee
and the shortlisted candidates will be intimated.
The selected CSA will be assigned appropriate Part-Time jobs based on
the requirements of the Institution.
All the selected students have to sign the agreement and give an
undertaking to follow the regulations under the scheme.
The shortlisted students will be issued offer letter.
The scheme will be strictly monitored with emphasis on the attendance
and work completion report.
Students must also submit a “Self-Appraisal” report on how he/she
benefited from the scheme along with their feedback.

HITS aims at preparing the students for the challenges of the global world. Emotional Maturity is a major concern in the modern era. To mould our students into a wholistic personality we have a well established Counselling and Well Being Center in the campus, handled by professionally trained Counselors. Through this service, the students are supported to deal with:

Academic Challenges: Lack of motivation to study, time management and exam preparation.

Behavioeral Challenges: Addictions, Peer Pressure.

Emotional Challenges: Managing anger, stress, anxiety and sadness.

Social Challenges: Adjustments in the hostel, handling conflicts with peers and authorities and relationship challenges.

Proactive sessions are conducted in groups. Regular interaction with the hostelers by the Counselors is an additional support offered to the students.

In addition to this we also have mentoring services rendered by the faculty members who along with the teaching are a part of the mentorship program. Each student is assigned a mentor, who would provide constant support to the student. A ratio of 1:20 is maintained in the mentorship program. NCC Annual Training Camp 2023 | Date : 5-14 July 2023

The NCC Annual Training Camp was held for ten days at the Bay Range Capus between 5-14 July 2023. The camp was organized by the HITS NCC Army Wing. The training camp witnessed active participation of Cadets from various colleges and schools, with a total of 516 participants, including 1 Army officer, 6 Army personnel, 10 Associate NCC Officers, and 500 NCC cadets. The primary objective of the training camp was to provide a comprehensive training and development to the participating NCC cadets. The focus was on physical fitness, discipline, military training, personality development, cultural activities, sports activities, and various other skills to shape them into responsible and competent individuals. 

Cadets from different schools and colleges reported at the camp site and were introduced to all the PI staff, ANO’s, seniors and batchmates from other institutions and juniors from different schools. The inaugural address was delivered by Colonel Jobee Philip, Camp Commandant. A guest lecture on public speaking was delivered by Commodore Atul Kumar Rastogi followed by an interactive session with DDG and Students. In addition to this, the general instructions on Service Selection Board (SSB) and Mock SSB interview were conducted by DDG for the SD & SW from different institution. 

The closing address was delivered by the Camp Commandant. This was followed by cultural events. Dr. S. N. Sridhara, Vice Chancellor distributed the prizes to the winners of the various competitions.

Flood Relief Support | 8 December 2023

HITS brings hope to the hearts submerged in despair!

Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science contributed generously by helping those affected by the recent flood in Chennai on 8 December 2023. Making a difference through compassion, the NSS and NCC Cells of HITS in collaboration with KCG Fashion Bank, took a step towards aiding the people residing in flood-affected areas in and around Pallikaranai. The team distributed pre-used clothes. 

The NSS Cell of HITS, in collaboration with Y's Men's Club of Chennai OMR and Y's Men's Club of Hindustan Youth on December 9 2023 distributed relief materials at Pallikkarai for those in need. They distributed essential relief materials, such as food supplies, clothing, and other necessities. 

This collective effort aimed to provide comfort and support to the resilient community of Pallikaranai during this challenging time. With the invaluable contributions from KCG Fashion Bank and the dedication of the volunteers, the team was able to reach out and offer essential clothing items to those in need. Witnessing the smiles and gratitude of the recipients reaffirmed the belief in the power of kindness and solidarity.

RYLA Rotary Youth Leadership Awards | 2 – 4 February 2024

RYLA, the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards was hosted by the Rotaract Clubs of Hindustan University along with Hindustan College of Arts and Science, KCG College of Technology, Chennai Capital, and HIET. The event was held at HITS Campus on 2 - 4 February 2024. The event was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Chennai Capital and was presided by Rtn. Mahaveer Bothara, District Governor Elect of RI District 3233, and Rtn. Satya Rao (President RCCC). The Guest of Honours were Rtn. Alan Bartley Youth service Director (RCCC), Rtn. Suresh Andrews (Rotaract Chairman of RCCC), and Rtn. Pranav Linali (Secretary RCCC). The special invitees were Rtr. PP. Essaki Sekar (DRR), Rtr.PP. Sasi Kumar (DRRE) and many other special speakers graced the occasion. More than 100 Rotaractors attended the event fervour and enthusiastically attended the event. 

RYLA was all about giving an intensive leadership Experience to improve leadership qualities and skills through fun and team activities along with amazing sessions by expert speakers. Team and fun activities like Management Games, Fire Camp were conducted to develop strong team bonds, learn leadership skills and establish fellowship. The three days camp was an eye opener for the young budding leaders.

Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science continues to make significant strides in fostering community development through a series of impactful initiatives in Sembaakkam Village, situated near Thirupporur. Over the span of 7 days, spanning from 12 – 18 August 2023, the Institution orchestrated a diverse range of activities, solidifying its commitment to excellence in education and social welfare.

This eventful week commenced with a notable inauguration on 12 August 2023 where Dr. S.N. Sridhara, the esteemed Vice Chancellor led the ceremonial flag hoisting. The spirit of cleanliness and civic responsibility resonated among participants, including students from esteemed institutions, government schools, and colleges. Their enthusiastic participation in essay writing, painting competitions, and debates centred around the theme "Clean India" marked a fitting tribute to Independence Day. The recognition of over 100 outstanding students was a highlight of the event, with prizes and awards presented by Mr. Pon Ramalingam, President of Chennai Hindustan Rotary Club, and Mr. Saravanan, President of Sembaakkam Panchayat. In furtherance of their commitment, HITS organized a beach cleaning awareness camp in Mahabalipuram on the same day, underlining their commitment to environmental stewardship.

On 16 August 2023 a remarkable event unfolded with Shankara Nethralaya Eye Hospital extending its caring touch to offer free eye check-ups and ocular care to over 100 community members. The impact of the camp was magnified by the distribution of 12 eyeglasses and facilitating free cataract surgeries for 15 individuals in need. The inauguration of this camp was graced by Dr. J. W. Alexander Jesudasan, Pro Vice Chancellor.

Adding momentum to their welfare initiatives, the HITS collaborated with Ragas Dental College and Hospital to host a dental camp on 17 August 2023. Benefiting more than 100 members of the community, the camp provided free dental check-ups, vital oral health awareness, and complimentary oral care kits. This commitment to holistic health extended to the organization of a Veterinary camp on 18 August 2023 in partnership with the Animal Husbandry Department, Chengalpattu, at Acharapakkam village. 

Emphasizing the importance of road safety, an insightful campaign was meticulously orchestrated on August 18th, in collaboration with Thiruporur Traffic Police. Dr. Angelina Geetha, Dean of the Engineering and Technology department, inaugurated the campaign. This endeavour aimed to educate and promote responsible road behaviour among the local youth, amplifying adherence to road safety regulations. 
Underscoring their dedication to environmental conservation,HITS embarked on a laudable venture—planting 77 fruit-bearing trees, including mango, jackfruit, and guava, within the Sembaakkam region. This eco-conscious initiative seeks to nurture the surroundings while providing sustenance to the local community.

In a demonstration of commitment to educational infrastructure, the Instituion donated 5 green boards to government schools and transformed the visual appeal of Anganwadi and primary school buildings with vibrant wall paintings. Additionally, a physiotherapy camp in association with the Department of Physiotherapy and a fashion bank event in collaboration with KCG Fashion Bank were successfully organized on 19 August 2023.

The entire camp was successfully coordinated by Mr. K. Gnanasekaran, NSS Coordinator, whose efforts played a pivotal role in the seamless execution of these initiatives. These initiatives stand as a testament to the dedication of HITS to academic excellence and its enduring commitment to social well-being and sustainable development. The University’s proactive role within the community serves as a compelling model of how educational institutions can serve as catalysts for positive change.

HITS NSS and NCC Join the "One Crore Palm Seed Plantation" at Kovalam Beach! | Date: 1 October 2023

The National Service Scheme (NSS) and National Cadet Corps (NCC) of Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS) united with the Tamil Nadu Government for a remarkable environmental initiative. They participated in the "One Crore Palm Seed Plantation" event at the picturesque Kovalam Beach. With more than 200 enthusiastic students, the team ventured to the seashores to plant palm seeds. Our collective effort not only contributes to the beauty of our coastline but also plays a vital role in preserving our environment. This event is a testament to the power of youth coming together for a greener, cleaner, and healthier tomorrow. It is a step towards a sustainable future we can all be proud of.

Teacher’s Day at Panchayat Union Primary School | Date: 5 September 2023

On 5th September 2023, Teacher's Day was joyously celebrated at Panchayat Union Primary School in Thirupporur by the NSS (National Service Scheme) cell of HITS. The event was a tribute to the dedicated educators who shape young minds. Ms. Beena James, Head i/c of Student Affairs, and Ms. Ranjana, a respected Professor in MCA, graced the occasion and presented thoughtful gifts to the esteemed school teachers.

In the spirit of promoting creativity and awareness, a drawing competition was organized in the focusing on the theme "Swachh" (cleanliness). Prizes were distributed to the talented young participants who showcased their artistic skills and dedication to the cause of cleanliness. More than 20 enthusiastic NSS volunteers actively took part in organizing and managing this memorable event, demonstrating their commitment to community service and education. It was a heartwarming celebration that highlighted the importance of both teachers and student involvement in shaping a brighter future.

Band-Ex – Winners of Battle of Bands at CHEMFEST 2023 | 22 July 2023

The University music band named “Band-Ex” clenched the first position in the Battle of Bands contest held during the CHEMFEST 2023, an intercollegiate National Level Cultural Fest held on 22 July 2023. Band-Ex contested with a total of thirty-two bands from various institutions across the nation. Their performance was mainly focussed on fusion music. The team comprised of

Emergence 2023 | Date : 4 November 2023

On the dynamic morning of 4 November 2023, the MGR auditorium at Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS) resonated with enthusiasm and expectation as the first-year understudies of BBA and SOL showcased their exceptional abilities amid the much-anticipated "EMERGENCE ‘23” occasion. Chief Guest, Dr. Ravi Margasahayam, Space Great Will Ambassador NASA.

In his compelling address, Dr. Ravi Margasahayam emphasized the importance of failures and to see all that as successful failures, gave an illustration of that he couldn't gotten to be a pilot but he sent numerous to space. He said to continuously carry aptitude, intelligence, and Knowledge along your life. He also remembered his interaction with APJ Abdul Kalam. Communicated his adore towards family. Gave three imperative focuses to keep in mind in life To begin with, is The Regard to realize anything, moment is Fear, continuously being prepared to confront it and the final one is to require the calculated sum of chance

The event started with a sincere prayer by Rev. Justin Jose, who is the Student Chaplain, followed by "Tamizh Thai Vaazhthu". The event started with a beautiful performance of the University Anthem and the awarding of the Dr. KCG can be rewritten as Kansas City Gold. The Verghese documentary showed how the founder made a lasting impact.

Dr. Karuppasamy Ramanathan, Dean of School of Management, gave a friendly welcome to the new students. He talked about the chances and international experiences they can have at HITS. He thought about his time in college and how his parents and teachers supported him. He thanked the Students Affairs department for organizing all the college events. He asked the students to be modest while they are studying. Ms. Beena James, Head Student Affairs i/c, presented the introduction of the Chief Guest.

The freshmen showcased their talents through dance, music, ramp walk, and singing.  Emergence’23 came to a magnificent close, leaving everyone in awe. The air was filled with a sense of patriotism as the Indian National Anthem echoed through the venue, stirring the souls of all those present. This powerful rendition not only brought a feeling of unity but also instilled a deep sense of pride among the attendees. It was a truly remarkable moment, symbolizing the triumphant end of an incredible event.

Festival of Chennai

The musical extravaganza called ‘Music on Wheels’, as part of The Hindu’s ‘Festival of Chennai’ is making waves across the city

A double-decker bus, which is touring across the city, is hosting music shows at various hotspots.
It reached the Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science to celebrate the 384th anniversary of Chennai. This year, to bring the flavors that define the city, iconic structures that have stood the test of time, and the transport systems from the past till the present that not only aided in commute but also served as lifelines at times of crisis.

Furthermore, the audience can go inside the bus and catch glimpses of The Hindu’s Archival Photo Exhibits on Madras, thoughtfully cataloged to cherish the birth month of the city.
The  Festival of Chennai music performances received a roaring reception from the students.

The student took a picture of the bus and shared it on social media with #MadeOfChennai to win exciting goodies.
They took a tour inside the bus and reminisced about Chennai’s yesteryear with The Hindu’s Archival Photo Exhibit that is on display.

Music on Wheels is truly a celebration of Chennai’s people, music, and culture. With local bands, film music, and indie artists, it only keeps getting better.

Fiesta ’23 | Date : 14 October 2023

Fiesta ’23 – the fresher’s day for the freshmen of the School of Engineering and Technology was celebrated on 14 October 2023. The celebration aims to showcase the talents of the budding engineers. The Chief Guest for the day was Dr. S. Thirumagan, Principal, Hindustan College of Arts and Science. 

The Chief Guest began his speech with his greetings to the students and thanked the Management for inviting him to the campus. He conducted a general knowledge quiz for the student audience. Dr. Thirumagan also shared his experience during his college days. He urged the students to utilize the facilities and opportunities offered by the college in order to be successful in life.

In his presidential address, Dr. S. N. Sridhara, Vice Chancellor encouraged the students to utilize their energy for their own development and thereby bring out the best in themselves. Dr. Muthukumar Subramanian, Registrar, in his felicitation address conveyed his wishes to the freshmen and said that they have made the right choice of joining HITS for their higher education.

The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Angelina Geetha, Dean, School of Engineering and Technology. The freshmen witnessed an inspiring video presentation on the Founder Chairman (Late) Dr. K. C. G. Verghese. The opening prayer was offered by Rev. Justin Jose, Student Chaplain. Ms. Beena James, Head – Students Affairs presented the introduction of the Chief Guest. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. K.S. Shaji Dean of Student Affairs. 

The first-year students were entertained with various cultural programmes like Songs, Classical Dance, Fusion Dance, Martial Arts, and Fashion Ramp Walk. The cultural session of Fiesta ’23 was a gateway to identify the new talents on campus.

On October 13, The Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science, Padur, hosted a heartfelt Thanksgiving event to celebrate the prestigious NAAC A+ Accreditation. The occasion was graced by esteemed guests, faculty members, and jubilant students.

The event commenced with a warm tribute to the dedicated Library Department and the diligent Student Coordinators who played pivotal roles in this success. It was highlighted that in 2021, the percentage of full-time teachers stood at 46%, contributing significantly to the institution's remarkable progress.

During the event, the NAAC team's evaluation process was discussed, emphasizing the institution's high marks and the impressive success rate of its students, particularly in the realm of sports and games.

Pro Vice-Chancellor, Alexander Jesudasan, and Elizabeth Jesudasan were honored with bouquets, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to the institution's growth. Chancellor Ashok Vargese shared inspiring success stories of students, emphasizing the need for students to seek diverse experiences in the professional realm. He expressed his gratitude to the teachers and management, with a special mention of KCG Verghese for his unwavering support.

The Vice-Chancellor presented a bouquet to Aby Sam, recognizing his significant contributions. Founder Chancellor Elizabeth delivered a felicitation address, commending the institution's monumental achievement. The Chancellor appreciated the hard work and dedication of all those involved, citing it as a momentous milestone for the institution.

An appreciation ceremony ensued, honoring notable achievers including R. Ashokan from the Department of Aerospace Engineering, Dr. Angelina Geetha for NAAC criteria, Dr. K. Ranjana from the Computer Science and Engineering Department, Dr. Malana, and Dr. Antony, the Deputy Director, on behalf of E. Kamalesh Kumar.

Notable faculty members were also recognized, including Dr. Push Ravi, Assistant St. Paul, N. Praabahakar from the Department of Chemistry, Dr. Smuel, Associate Professor of Food Technology, and B. Hariram from the Department of Mechanical Engineering. NCC's Dr. T. Shanmuga Naadhar, Assistant Automobile, was acknowledged for his remarkable contribution.

Ponramalingam delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants, contributors, and attendees.

The day concluded with a lively cake-cutting ceremony, accompanied by a breathtaking dance performance that left the audience in awe. The energy and enthusiasm of the students resonated throughout the event, signifying the vibrant spirit of the institution's community.

The NAAC A+ Accreditation Thanksgiving event at Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science, Padur, was indeed a testament to the institution's unwavering commitment to excellence and academic distinction.

During the event, an array of captivating performances by talented students added fervor to the celebration. Notably, Bhuvanesh, Durai Murugan, and Divakar showcased their exceptional skills in a mesmerizing Silambattam performance, leaving the audience spellbound.

Additionally, a remarkable music performance by Prajeet Tracy, Mark Aruliah, Prathik, Uthkarsh, Stuti, Anbu, and Joshua George set the stage alight with their harmonious melodies, captivating the hearts of all in attendance.

The graceful classical dance performed by R. Vaishnavi from the B.arch department,Siva Priya from the ASP-B department, Y. Ranga Priya from the Aero-A department, Vaishnavi Nair from the ASP-A department, and Madhumitha, also from ASP-A, added a touch of elegance and cultural richness to the event, captivating the audience and earning heartfelt applause. These performances collectively showcased the vibrant and diverse talents of the student body, reflecting the institution's commitment to nurturing all facets of holistic development.

Pongal Celebration 2024 – Date : 13 January 2024

HITS celebrated the Tamil harvest festival – Pongal on 13 January 2024. The chief guest for the celebration was Thiru. G. Selvam, Member of Parliament, Kanchipuram Constituency and the guest of Honour was Thiru S. S. Balaji, Member of Legislative Assembly, Thiruporur Constituency. The event was graced by the presence of Mrs. K. A. S. Thara Sudhakar, President, Padur Panchayat, Dr. Muthukumar Subramanian, Registrar, Dr. Pon. Ramalingam, Director, IQAC, University Officials, staff and students attended the event. All the dignitaries participated in Pongal making event. They also appreciated the University in conducting traditional festivals which propagate the Tamil culture and tradition among the youth. 
As part of the celebration, many traditional games were conducted for the staff, students and the wards of the faculty members. Participants enjoyed the bullock cart and tractor ride around the campus. The Pongal recipe prepared by the staff members was served to the participants. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the games. The event also witnessed the performance of mayilattam, maadatam, karakaattam, thaapaattam that were performed by professionals. The celebration concluded with the DJ concert. 

PONNONAM 2023 | Date: 19 August 2023

The Ponnonam 2023 was celebrated in the Bay Range Campus on 19 August 2023. The celebration was graced by the presence of Mr. Ashok Verghese, Pro Chancellor; Dr. R. W. Alexander Jesudasan, Pro Vice Chancellor; Dr. K. S. Shaji, Dean, Ms. Beena James, Head (i/c) – Student Affairs; Deans, Heads of Departments, staff and students.

In his Onam message, Mr. Ashok Verghese conveyed his Onam wishes to the august gathering and welcomed the Thirumali Music Band. He then pointed out that the state of Kerala is a beautiful land that holds rich tradition and culture. He then narrated a personal experience where he had to travel alongside the Chief Minister, a few prominent statesmen and high-profile personalities of Kerala. Mr. Verghese said that this gesture of them exhibited their humility and insists that as citizens it is the responsibility of every citizen to take care of these. As charity begins at home, it is the responsibility of the youth to respect and honour the aged. He also informed that the total student strength at Hindustan Group of Institutions has increased to 20,000. He also encouraged students to participate in all the events hosted inhouse.  
Dr. R. W. Alexander Jesudasan, in his felicitation address said that Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science is a secular Institution that celebrates all religious and regional festivals with equal importance. He informed the gathering that HITS has launched two new programmes viz., School of Pharmacy and School of Nursing and has plans to commence the School of Performing Arts. He encouraged the students to participate in music competitions in order to win laurels to the Institution. He concluded his speech with his Onam wishes. 

The celebration commenced with an invocation song rendered by Ms. Kiran, Research Scholar, Department of Chemistry followed by the welcome address by Ms. Alisha Jamal, IV-year Aerospace Engineering. The enthralled audience were entertained by a professional Kathakali dancer and the Chenda Melam performers. They also witnessed the Thiruvathira Dance and the traditional Mohiniattam. To add to the excitement, a massive students’ flash mob dazzled the audience. The pinnacle of the day was a scintillating music concert by Thirumali and Thudweiser, leaving everyone enchanted. The highlight of this event was the grand Onam Sadhya, a feast for the senses, showcasing the rich culinary traditions of Kerala. The celebration concluded with the vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. K Mathew, IV-year Electronics and Communication Engineering.

TEACHER’S DAY ’23 | Date : 7 September 2023

The vibrant and prestigious “Teacher’s Day '23” was held on 7 September 2023 at the MGR Auditorium. The event was jointly organized by Dr. K S Shaji, Dean, Student Affairs, Mrs. Beena James Head - of Student Affairs, Mr. Royson, Cultural Co-Ordinator and Office of Student Affairs, and Mr. C Santhosh, Music instructor were key individuals in organizing the programme.

The event commenced with Opening Prayer by Rev. Justin Jose, Student Chaplain by Tamil Thai Vazhthu. 
The event then proceeded to the Welcome Address delivered by the most respected Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr. R.W. Alexander Jesudasan. This was followed by the unraveling of the movie trailer “Konjam Pesinall Yenna” by the Team behind the movie. The audience were captivated by the trailer. They were enthralled by an amazing musical concert performed by the special Team Konjam Pesinall Yenna for everyone present. The concert was vibrant and pulsating with energy, making the audience thrilled with excitement.

After which the most important part of the celebration took place. As a token of gratitude and appreciation HITS took the golden opportunity to acknowledge the hard work, dedication and passion of School teachers in the City of Chennai. Each Teacher was presented a beautiful citation which is an official report mentioning their praiseworthy contribution in the field of education, a beautiful memento, and a generous cash price of Rs. 10,000. The event then came to an end followed by a few more songs played by the Team Konjam Pesinall Yenna and the audience dispersing after.

VIBRANCE 2023 - Freshers Talent Hunt at HITS | Date: 28 October 2023

On the vibrant morning of 28 October 2023, the MGR Auditorium at Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS) reverberated with excitement and anticipation as the first-year students of Liberal Arts, Applied Sciences, and SAHS showcased their remarkable talents during the much-anticipated "VIBRANCE 2023 - Freshers Talent Hunt" event.

The Chief Guest for the event was Mr. Anant Melatur, an illustrious alumnus of HITS (Mech-1998) and the Regional Director of Boeing India. Mr. Anant Melatur, in his compelling address, emphasized the significance of curiosity in students, emphasizing that being curious is more important than securing high marks. He encouraged students to delve into what drives them and make the most of the access and facilities available at HITS.

The event commenced with the opening prayer offered by Rev. Justin Jose, the Student Chaplain. The resonant notes of "Tamizh Thai Vaazhthu" filled the air, paying homage to the rich cultural heritage of Tamil Nadu. The event proceeded with the stirring rendition of the University Anthem, accompanied by the presentation of the Dr. K.C.G. Verghese documentary, which served as a testament to the enduring legacy and contributions of the esteemed founder.

Dr. David T. Easow, the Deputy Director of International Affairs, extended a warm welcome to the fresh minds, emphasizing the opportunities and global exposure awaiting them at HITS. He highlighted the various international programmes, including industrial visits, internships abroad, dual degree programs, joint degree programs, and the International Language and Cultural Centre, encouraging students to broaden their horizons and engage in diverse learning experiences. 

In his inaugural address, Dr. R.W. Alexander Jesudasan, the Pro Vice Chancellor, emphasized that education goes beyond textbooks and examinations. He underscored HITS's role in nurturing students into holistic individuals, citing examples of iconic figures like Sachin Tendulkar and Bill Gates, and urged students to appreciate and nurture their unique talents while finding a purpose in their lives. 

Later the day, the freshmen entertained the audience with cultural events such as classical dance, fusion, music, and martial arts. The event concluded with the National Anthem.
