SCLHK HALF DAY CONFERENCE: SECURITY OF PAYMENT LEGLISATION: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW AND TO DO The Society of Construction Law Hong Kong invites members to a half day conference to understand and explore the practical implications of the forthcoming SOPL with the support and assistance of International Statutory Adjudication Forum (ISAF). • Hear from practitioners with hands on experience of security of payment and adjudications. • Discuss the challenges faced, and lessons gained, in several other SOPL countries. • Consider the systems and approaches needed to navigate SOPL & adjudication. • Learn about some of the unique features of the HK scheme and their implications. The Society of Construction Law Hong Kong now has about 250 members from all sectors of the construction industry. The Society holds frequent meetings and other events. The Society of Construction Law Hong Kong invites members to an evening in-person talk. Robert Scrivener is a barrister at 4 Pump Court specialising in construction, shipping, shipbuilding and energy disputes. He is ranked as a leading junior for his work in these fields, where it has been said that “Robert’s worth ethic and attention to detail are exemplary. In cross-examination, his knowledge of the issues and evidence is a formidable challenge for any witness”. Robert regularly appears in international arbitrations around the world, including in Hong Kong, Paris, Singapore and London. Recent instructions have included acting for the shipyard in a USD 150 million arbitration about the delivery of a drillship, for the buyers in two drill rig construction terminations with a total combined claim value of over SGD 900 million, and for the main contractor in a high-value dispute about a major European highways project. In this talk, Robert will: - Look at some recent shipping / maritime cases that have been discussing the prevention principle; - Identify some of the different approaches to the prevention principle that have arisen; and - Discuss the implications for construction practitioners.
