We all play a role in ensuring our campus is free from all forms of sexual assault and interpersonal violence. Be aware and take personal responsibility for the following:
- Know What Consent Looks Like - The laws vary by state and situation, but you don’t have to be a legal expert to understand how consent plays out in real life. Understand what consent is. Read the Interim Title IX policy and information on laws governing consent in the District!
- Know How to Respond if Someone Is Pressuring You - If someone is pressuring you to engage in sexual activity, it is important to remember that being in this situation is not your fault. Here are some strategies to try.
- Plan for Safety - Brainstorming ways to stay safe may help reduce the risk of future harm.
- Keep Safety In Mind While Traveling - Whether you travel often or you’re getting ready for a once-in-a-lifetime vacation, it’s important to think about safety as part of your travel preparations.
- Drink and Party Responsibly, especially if Alcohol is Involved - There are steps you can take to increase your safety in situations where drinking may be involved.
- Take These Steps to Prevent Sexual Assault - When you see something that doesn’t seem right, there are simple ways to step in and help a friend.
- Know Your Role in Preventing Sexual Assault - Whether it’s giving someone a safe ride home from a party or diverting a person who is engaging in uncomfortable behavior, anyone can help prevent sexual violence.
