🌿 📈 Driving Green Growth: Collaborative Efforts in Indonesia's Economic Transformation   “Partnering up with the Directorate of Macro Planning and Statistic Analysis and Directorate of Environmental Affairs, BAPPENAS, GIZ is committed to move the needle forward on Indonesia's strategies towards a green economic transformation, as set forth in the National Long Term Plan Development Plan (RPJPN 2025 -2045).  The challenges are pertinent, from the triple planetary crisis to escaping the middle-income trap and becoming a high-income country by 2045. Recognizing the need for a collective effort, a successful Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was held on August 21st, bringing together diverse stakeholders to identify critical roadblocks. Bappenas and the GIZ Green Jobs team of the ID-DE project GESIT are spearheading an FGD with over 80 circular economy and waste management stakeholders to gather inputs for the development of a Green Jobs Occupational Map for the Circular Economy and for identifying current and future jobs and skills needs in the circular economy. Participants included representatives of related Ministries and national bodies, associations and companies, education and training institutions, labour unions and civil society organizations, as well as other related development partners and ID-DE projects. The Bappenas Director of Manpower opened the workshop and expressed her gratitude for the participation and contributions from all stakeholders as their insights and their involvement are fundamental. 🌏 By embracing innovation and fair practices, particularly in the digital economy, businesses can thrive and become more competitive. However, the different pace at which ASEAN countries progress with digital transformation poses unique challenges for regional economic integration and cross-border trade. 💡 To address related policy issues and implications for SMEs, the ASEAN Economic Forum and GIZ hosted a policy roundtable titled "Bridging Borders: Digital Trade and Economic Integration in ASEAN" on August 15, 2024, at the Habibie & Ainun Library, Jakarta. 🌍✨ Sustain Peatlands, Secure Our Future! 🌿💧 Through GIZ, Germany is actively supporting ASEAN in advancing the sustainable use of peatlands and haze mitigation. As part of the ASEAN German portfolio, the SUPA/ASEAN REPEAT programme recently held its 6th and final Programme Steering Committee meeting on 14 August 2024, in Bangkok, Thailand. The meeting highlighted SUPA’s major milestone, including developing the ASEAN Peatland Management Strategy (2023-2030). Dr Vong Sok, Head of the Environment Division of the ASEAN Secretariat, acknowledged SUPA’s achievement for its wide-reaching impact—from shaping regional policies to fostering local community development. He noted that despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, SUPA successfully delivered crucial activities, enabling stakeholders to collaborate and learn from one another. Highlights of the meeting including: • 🇩🇪 Maike Lorenz from the German Embassy reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to peatland restoration as a key climate strategy. • 🌏 The GIZ team shared progress updates and introduced the new SEACAI project for clean air in Southeast Asia. • 📅 SUPA/ASEAN REPEAT programme will conclude in January 2025, with a closing event scheduled for November 2024 in Bangkok.
