Last week in Dalian, China, the World Economic Forum hosted the Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2024 #AMNC24, bringing together over 1,500 leaders from business, government, civil society, international organizations, and academia. ย  With 2024 projected to be the hottest year in history, the urgency to meet the 2015 Paris Agreement targets has never been greater. Our global commonsโ€”ocean, biodiversity, and landโ€”are facing unprecedented threats from plastic pollution, biodiversity loss, and climate change. ย  During the session "An Important Moment for the Global Commons," participants highlighted several opportunities to leverage multilateral processes: ๐Ÿž Despite the complexities, uniting nations and stakeholders can yield long-term results by focusing on common areas and avoiding contradictions. ๐ŸŒ Diverse stakeholders must take a more active role in fostering effective multilateralism through wider participation, innovative partnerships, and increased involvement of non-public institutions. ย  Read more insights from AMNC24: https://lnkd.in/gTVVJ4rz ย  Global Plastic Action Partnership, Friends of Ocean Action, Naoko Ishii, Fareed Yasseen, satvinder singh, Alfredo Giron Nava, Akanksha Khatri, Gemma Parkes, Erin Skoczylas, Anna-Maria Fyfe Hug, Clemence Schmid, Christian Kaufholz,ย Liviana Zorzi, Xi Xie ย  #AMNC24 #Dalian #NaturePositive

The Voluntary Pactโ€™s co-design workshop, a significant step forward, aimed to reduce 70% of single-use plastics in Ghana's supermarkets by 2030. Plastic Punch organized the workshop with support from the GIZ Ghana Go Circular Project and collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation. Industry leaders such as MaxMart, Marina Mall, Melcom, Green Butterfly Market, All Needs Supermarket, and Sneda Shop, along with political partners, stakeholders, and organizations like the Environmental Protection Agency and Food and Beverages Association of Ghana, participated in the session. Ghana National Plastic Action Partnership appreciates the opportunity to collaborate and align strategies to combat plastic pollution and is optimistic about our progress.

  • On 25 June 2024, the Indonesia National Plastic Action Partnership (NPAP) held a discussion with Indonesiaโ€™s local FMCGs and retailers. As the private sector plays a significant role in combatting plastic pollution, NPAP facilitated an open discussion and knowledge exchange about the challenges in plastic management faced by the private sector and their ways to overcome them. The discussions are held in the wake of the global plastic treaty negotiations and Indonesiaโ€™s increasing commitment to tackle plastic pollution, reflected in Presidential Regulation 83/2018, 97/2017, and Environment and Forestry Ministerial Regulation 75/2019. The forum also provides more information on key strategic issues in plastic waste management and the national policy for the participants. We appreciate all local FMCGs and retails who joined our fruitful discussion: Nutrifood, PT Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk , Sinar Mas Agro Resources and Technology (SMART), Cimory Group, PT Kino Indonesia Tbk, Wings Group Indonesia (Sayap Mas Utama), PT. Garudafood Putra Putri Jaya, Tbk, PT SANTOS JAYA ABADI (Kapal Api Global), PT Lion Super Indo, ASPARMINAS (Asosiasi Produsen Air Minum Kemasan Nasional), APRINDO (Asosiasi Pengusaha Ritel Indonesia), Kalbe Nutritionals (PT Sanghiang Perkasa), and PT Industri Jamu Dan Farmasi Sido Muncul Tbk.
