More than just only planting, we focus on growing. More than just greening, we thrive to biodiversify. A balanced ecosystem is a healthy home for all creatures. Let's make our Earth a blessing for the whole universe. Recently, Sebumi had the opportunity to collaborate with DNV Indonesia (DNV) , a company specializing in risk management and assurance services, to celebrate their 160th anniversary. Together with their employees and leaders, we planted 20 fruit trees and 160 bamboo trees, which produce 35% more oxygen than other trees. Bamboo improves groundwater absorption, provides habitat for various species, and offers numerous benefits to people and cultures. We hope that the flexible and highly beneficial nature of bamboo will inspire us in our organization, helping us to adapt to challenges and continue to bring positive impact to society. ----- At Sebumi, we’ve started to use the term 'penumbuhan' or 'growing' instead of '' penanaman' or planting.' Planting tends to be quick and often seen as a ceremonial moment. Those who plant may easily forget the seeds they've sown. However, what we plant doesn’t always grow. Growing and nurturing requires time, attention, and effort. It's not just about planting trees; what's more important is helping them grow. We’ve also begun to replace the term 'penghijauan' or 'greening' and introduced the term 'penghayatian' or 'biodiversifying'. The word 'green' in greening often focuses on the aesthetic or decorative element. But when we plant and nurture vegetation, it's not just about pleasing the eye; we are enriching life chains, creating living spaces for various species and organisms. A single tree can become home to thousands of insects, hundreds of birds, and support the life systems of millions of microorganisms. Enhancing Biodiversity is about nurturing ecosystems, building life supports for all creaturea, and balancing biotic and abiotic cycles that are interconnected, forming a complex and self-sustaining web of life. At Sebumi, we understand the concept of interdependence between humans and nature, as well as the importance of species interdependence as the key to the balance and sustainability of our increasingly fragile Earth. Nature is created with principles of interdependence and law of circularity. Living in disregard of these principles leads to imbalance and threatens all life. The principles of sustainable agriculture such as the use of organic fertilizers and natural pesticides, implementation of crop diversification and rotation, wise resource utilization, and empowerment of communities and local wisdom must be upheld. 🌱💫 By supporting practices that empower farmers and are responsible towards the earth, we're not only fulfilling our needs for food but also establishing a future towards food sovereignty and more prosperous and sustainable societies. Another significant challenge lies in the hands of the younger generation. Seduced by the allure of modern urban life, many millennials and Gen Z tend to distance themselves from the farming practices that once sustained our ancestors. Generation of young Farmers with progressive mindset, environmental awareness, entrepreneurship, and mastery of innovative technology to tackle the challenges of agriculture in the digital and globalization era is needed and rising.
