Innovative water solutions for sustainable cities 💧 ♻ 🏙 The white paper "Mainstreaming Decentralised Urban Water Management Solutions for Sustainable Cities" has been published in time for the IWA WWC, the annual meeting of the world's water experts, which will take place in Toronto from 11 to 15 August. It presents solutions for sustainable, local and circular water management in cities. Climate change, dwindling water resources and the rapidly growing urban population are increasingly leading to water crises worldwide and are demanding a rethink in urban water management. 💡 “We need new approaches to increase the resilience of cities against increasing drought problems,” says Christian Binz from Eawag. "One solution is to recycle the water locally. This creates a reliable source of water during drought periods, for example in major cities in India, Africa and increasingly also North America. The white paper by Eawag, the University of California, Berkeley and BlueTech Research shows how a sustainable water management can be achieved with innovative approaches. Three roadmaps describe solutions for individual buildings, urban neighbourhoods and cities, including regional agriculture. Six global cities - San Francisco, Bengaluru (India), Hamburg, Helsingborg, Geneva and Paris - are already implementing these approaches and can serve as lighthouses for other cities interested in integrating innovative water solutions. 👉 Read the news article: https://lnkd.in/eXne8iRp 👉 Go directly to the white paper https://lnkd.in/eg_ZMt-m Christian Binz Shreya Nath Hamse Kjerstadius HAMBURG WASSER #water #sustainablecities #circularwatermanagement #urbanwatermanagement #aquaticresearch #watercrisis #drought #sanfrancisco #Bengaluru #Hamburg #Helsinborg #Geneva #Paris #WorldWaterCongress

🔔 One of the Weekly BlueTech Analyst Alerts that caught our eye this week, was the announcement of Toyota’s hydrogen car being used as an official vehicle at the #Paris24Olympics. At BlueTech, we’re closely tracking developments in the hydrogen sector, and our web briefing last week highlighted several critical issues that often go unnoticed. "𝑻𝒐𝒚𝒐𝒕𝒂’𝒔 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒎𝒐𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝒂 𝒉𝒚𝒅𝒓𝒐𝒈𝒆𝒏 𝒄𝒂𝒓 𝒊𝒔 𝒔𝒄𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒇𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒎𝒊𝒔𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒏𝒆𝒅 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒏𝒆𝒕-𝒛𝒆𝒓𝒐 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒅𝒂𝒎𝒂𝒈𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒓𝒆𝒑𝒖𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 2024 𝑮𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒔,” says the open letter by the Centre for Sustainable Road Freight (SRF), which more than 120 scientists and engineers have signed. Key points to consider: 1️⃣ Efficiency & Cost: Critics claim that green-hydrogen-powered vehicles require three times more renewable electricity and are at least three times more expensive to run than Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs). 2️⃣ Environmental Impact: Despite the “green” label, most hydrogen today is produced from unabated fossil fuels. Consequently, fuel-cell vehicles using grey hydrogen can emit up to 50% more than traditional fossil fuel vehicles. 3️⃣ Public Attention: Given its association with the Olympics, this news is likely to attract significant public attention, potentially influencing perceptions and the future market of hydrogen cars. As the discussion around hydrogen technology evolves, it’s crucial to address these challenges transparently. The responses from the Olympics and Toyota could have a lasting impact on the trajectory of the hydrogen car market. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/dmrSKUey Stay tuned as we continue to monitor and analyse these developments. Join the conversation! Share your thoughts on hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in the comments below. ⬇️ #BlueTech #HydrogenCars #Paris2024
