Marco Bonnington-Carter, Associate Director at Linesight, recently participated in a roundtable discussion hosted by BE News. Sponsored by Clearbell Capital LLP and PwC, the panel of industry experts explored emerging sectors and trends within the built environment. A key focus of the discussion was Life Sciences. Despite a mixed year in 2023, marked by a sharp fall in investment across the Oxford-Cambridge Arc during the first half, the outlook for the next year remains positive. Bonnington-Carter predicted growth in the 'golden triangle' of Oxford, Cambridge, and London, as well as in areas like Norwich, which is attracting significant investment. He referenced Chancellor Jeremy Hunt’s May 2023 pledge of £650 million to boost development, relax planning laws, open new spaces, and repurpose existing offices. Additionally, he mentioned the ongoing development of the East-West Rail (EWR) route between Cambridge and Oxford, with 66km of new track already laid since work began in 2021. “These initiatives are expected to progress from next year until around 2028,” said Bonnington-Carter. He also highlighted new hubs in London, such as Hammersmith and Canary Wharf, where banks are vacating spaces, creating opportunities for further development.
