The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage recently released a report “Energy Upgrading of Traditional Buildings for Low Embodied and Life Cycle Emissions” This report had some interesting key findings when it came to retrofitting of historic solid-walled structures 🏠 Here are just a few from the report ⤵️ “🔸The deeper retrofit of the traditional building (Level 2) produces 35% less carbon emissions within the 60-year reference study period than the comparative New Build option. 🔸By 2050, Level 2 has the lowest cumulative emissions of all scenarios. 🔸Where insulation can be applied to all building elements such as floor, walls, roofs/ceilings, there are significant reductions in operational emissions.” (The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage) This showcases the benefits of retrofitting older homes and improving their efficiency, check out the full report by searching the government website or check out a great post by the Irish Green Building Council in the comments below 💬 #retrofit #housing #retrofitting #homes #energyefficiency #buildingenergyrating

The Community Energy Grant by SEAI is a fantastic programme that is helping communities all across Ireland improve their energy efficiency 🏘️🔋 Communities all over Ireland can benefit from this programme and here are some key points to note ⤵️ 🔹Project must be community oriented 🔹Project Co-Ordinator(s) are required 🔹In order to apply in the past there had to be a wide range of community organisations/buildings involved. However now: 🔹 SEAI recently updated the programme to now include “Section 1.7.1 Domestic only strand” which means that these projects can now be made up of only houses and no longer require community or commercial buildings to be included. This will make it more accessible especially for the Sustainable Energy communities moving from the plan to the do phase.
