Critical Threat Alert – Major CrowdStrike Windows Outage ⚠️ A faulty update from CrowdStrike for Falcon Sensor is causing Windows machines to enter a recovery boot loop, affecting thousands of machines globally to experience the “Blue Screens of Death” (#BSOD). The issue affects Windows systems running CrowdStrike’s endpoint security software. CrowdStrike acknowledged the issue at 06:20 AM UTC+1 this morning and reverted the faulty update to prevent further spread; however, this doesn’t fix machines that have already been impacted.  There is a manual workaround: 1. Boot Windows into Safe Mode or the Windows Recovery Environment (WRE). 2. Navigate to the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike directory. 3. Locate and delete file matching "C-00000291*.sys" 4. Boot the host normally. This will be challenging for remote machines or cloud-based machines. While CrowdStrike and Microsoft are working to resolve these issues, please be aware of potential service disruptions. Team Building Day: Making Scrum fun! 😊 At VMGroup, we are committed to innovation through teamwork, collaboration, and staying ahead with agile practices. This month Program Manager, Eva Murphy (and resident #ScrumMaster), organised the day, jam packed with fun team building activities. Eva took the #agile and #scrum practices we implement for project management at work and showcased the benefits they provide, through #collaborative games. The day started out much like any other day in the office, throwing around paper planes! ✈️ Eva split the team into groups, supplying the groups with paper and a simple set of requirements. The goal was to design, build and launch as many paper planes as possible within the #sprint timebox. The definition of done was clear. The planes must be capable of flying over 3 meters, have the team name on one wing and was made from one quarter of the A4 sheet of paper. The task was broken into 5 minute sprints. The sprints were broken into stages of #planning, #development, and #retrospective. 📝 Every plane that met the definition of done was tallied for each group. The retrospectives allowed us to inspect and #adapt our #process, by making improvements from one sprint to the next. The review allowed us to adapt our process based on team feedback and promote continuous improvement, much like how we deliver on #projects in the office. With every sprint, we saw a gradual increase in the quality of paper plane being launched and evidence of a more efficient process, which contributed to better outcomes for each of the groups. After a bit of clean up and recycling, Eva supplied the groups with marshmallows, dry spaghetti, string and tape. A curious snack combo we thought, but those who skipped breakfast weren’t complaining! Anticipation was building in the conference room as Eva explained the next challenge. The rules seemed simple. Using only the resources provided, a touch of creativity and teamwork, each group had to make a tower. Tallest tower wins. 🏆 Heads were scratched, towers were built, torn down, and rebuilt. By the end of the challenge the tallest tower was the least ambitious on paper but focused on building strong foundations after some initial prototyping and planning. There’s a lesson to be learned somewhere in there… The day concluded with a fun group treasure hunt, all around Dublin City and some well-deserved refreshments! 🥂 Agile & scrum practices are powerful tools to improve transparency and delivery of value, incorporating collaborative and fun elements to the process, makes it even more effective!
