Energy-efficient wastewater aeration technology.
About us
VorTech Water Solutions (VWS) solves energy intensive municipal and industrial wastewater treatment. Wastewater treatment has a massive energy footprint, consuming 1-2% of the world’s electricity. This is being continuously intensified by population growth and increasingly stringent treatment regulations. A significant contributor to the energy demand is the aeration process in biological treatment, accounting for up to 1% of the world’s electricity, which continues to employ outdated and inefficient aeration technologies. Energy efficiency has never had sufficient focus in the design of aeration systems. The Vortex Power Aerator, a novel wastewater aeration technology that massively reduces the energy of wastewater aeration has been developed to reduce the footprint of these processes. VorTech Water Solutions specialises in providing energy efficient water and wastewater solutions together with high-value services such as computational fluid dynamics and process modelling to maximise treatment performance at the lowest energy input. With years of expertise in fluid dynamics, wastewater process, control, and energy, we have developed the Vortex Power Aerator, cyclonic aeration approach which massively reduces the cost of aeration by up to 50%.

This is VorTech!🌪🌪 💧💧 🚰 Over the last three to four years, VorTech has deployed its ground-breaking wastewater technology at several commercial reference sites across Ireland and the UK; including in industrial (food and beverage) and municipal facilities (with treatment capacities so far of +110,000 people). See video below for examples. Vortex Powered Aeration (or VPA for short) addresses longstanding challenges of activated sludge treatment including: ✅ Lower cost (no blowers required), easier and safer retrofits ✅ Enhanced energy efficiency through innovative vortex and pump controlled operation ✅ Almost no maintenance, with all parts accessible above the water line In aggregate, the solution enhances sustainability and reduces total lifecycle costs of wastewater treatment! Registration for knowledge share events will be open soon. Contact us to find out more on [email protected] #sustainability #SDG6 #efficiency #wastewater #innovation

🎉🏆 🫧 🌪️We are delighted to announce that VorTech Water Solutions has been shortlisted, with our colleagues at Isle Utilities, for the prestigious Water Industry Awards 2024 in the #Groundbreaker category. The award shortlist recognises our Vortex Powered Aeration™ (VPA™ ) technology which is an innovative, new class of wastewater treatment system that significantly reduces the operational and total lifecycle costs of wastewater management. The system is uniquely powered by vortex (or cyclonic) flow and its objectives are simple and straightforward: fix the challenges associated with conventional aeration infrastructure, particularly by reducing cost and energy use. In this project, alongside diminishing the maintenance costs and enhancing the safety of operation at a major industrial facility, VorTech’s VPA™ technology has achieved a 30% reduction in specific energy consumption, contributing to more sustainable and cost-effective operations. The project received amazing support from our partners at Isle Utilities and Xylem Innovation Labs. Join us on 4th July 2024 at The Vox, Birmingham, to celebrate excellence and innovation in the water sector. #WaterIndustryAwards #Efficiency #Innovation #Sustainability #Collaboration

💡Discover the transformative role of drop structures in urban wastewater management, led by our CEO Dr. Sean Mulligan, in the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR) #Hydrolink Special Issue. The success of water infrastructure in the future will be based on significant advancements in innovation delivered by multidisciplinary expertise. At VorTech Water Solutions, this is core to our company’s philosophy, where our team is able to look both “upstream” and “downstream” of wastewater treatment infrastructure through their expertise in fluid dynamics and hydraulics, process engineering, biochemistry and energy systems. Today we are delighted to showcase an example of this, through the work of our CEO, Dr Sean Mulligan, in leading the charge on an important International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR) #Hydrolink Special Issue on Drop Structures. Sean’s expertise is in the field of hydraulic structures and this special issue focuses on the importance of Drop Structures in enabling deep sewer conveyance systems which: ✅Intercept and mitigate wastewater discharges from combined sewer overflows across urban environments and ✅Allows our cities to handle colossal volumes of rainwater following more intense storm events due to climate change impacts and increased urbanization. Drop structures have been core to the safe operation of such infrastructure, where they function to convey storm or wastewater, safely and efficiently, through substantial elevation differences required across deep sewer schemes as they provide flood protection and pollution mitigation across society. This special issue provides great insights into several case studies around the world including a general introduction on Drop Structures including sustainable construction methods (Ward and Burke), Best Practices in Physical Modelling with insights from the Strategic Tunnel Enhancement Project (STEP) project in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi (Jacobs), Thames Tideway Scheme (Jacobs), Hong Kong Island West Drainage Tunnel for Urban Flood Management (Professor Joseph Lee), the Singapore Deep Tunnel Sewerage System – Phase 2 (AECOM PUB, Singapore's National Water Agency) and numerous innovative projects across the United States including the Milwaukee, Boston, St. Louis and Indianapolis.
