🌊Green Ocean Update - Our Oysters are thriving! We’re excited to share some fantastic news from our Oyster Gardens, which we’ve been closely monitoring after the July/August spawning period! 🦪 Successful Reproduction: We’ve observed that some oysters have successfully reproduced, with fertilised larvae (spat) settling on the screens beneath the gardens. These screens, filled with shells and recruitment plates, are meticulously examined in the lab to identify baby oysters (see pictures 1 & 2). 🌊 Thriving Marine Environment: Since their last cleaning in early July, the oyster baskets have become home to a staggering number of sea squirts and other sea anemones. This accumulation highlights the flourishing marine life within our project (see picture 3). 🦀 Unexpected Visitors: A large crab made an appearance, finding its way into one of our baskets! Fortunately, Oysters are tough enough to withstand the attention of crabs. After a gentle nudge, it rejoined its companions on the sea floor (see picture 4). 🐟 Diverse Marine Life: Our gardens are now attracting delicate marine species like fish fry (likely mullet), feather stars, and juvenile crabs, all signs of a productive and healthy ecosystem (see picture 5). With our oysters now almost a year in situ and successfully reproducing, this marks a significant milestone for the Green Ocean Oyster Garden project in Dublin Bay. It’s very reassuring to see the results and be able to conclude that oysters can survive and thrive in these waters. 🎉 Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to watch this incredible ecosystem grow! #sustainablecoffee #sustainabilityproject #oysters

Direct from the Farm, Guaranteed: Our Commitment to Fair Trade and Sustainability ☕🌍 We are proud to share that our coffee is sourced directly from the farm. By dealing directly with the farmers, we simplify the supply chain and ensure that they receive a better price for their hard work. Why is this important? When we buy directly from coffee farmers, they are paid more for their beans than through traditional trading channels. We believe in a fair price for all, and this approach allows us to invest in the future, the land, and the people who dedicate their lives to growing exceptional coffee. Sustainability is at the heart of our operations. By preventing exploitation and ensuring fair practices, we help businesses and workers within the communities thrive now and into the future. A few weeks ago, we received a happy update from Charles, one of our coffee farmers in Kenya. Thanks to direct trade, Charles has been able to educate his children—two of whom are now in university, while another has been trained as a roaster and is working in Kenya's coffee industry. Stories like Charles's affirm our mission: investing in people, fostering sustainability, and ensuring that every cup of coffee you enjoy makes a positive impact. 📸 Below in the pictures you will see Charles and pictures from his coffee farm.

Great news! A few weeks ago, we spread 24 tonnes of scallop and oyster shell mix in Clew Bay. The newly restored area is now 13-hectare which is equivalent to 24 football pitches 🦪♻️🌊 This restoration process involves spreading a thin layer of shell, called culch, on the sea floor. This allows oyster seeds to attach and grow, eventually forming reefs. These reefs help seagrass to propagate, creating ideal spawning habitats for juvenile fish, invertebrates and tackle climate change 🐠🌏✨️ Each bag of Green Ocean Coffee sold has resulted in the restoration of every square meter of this new area. Thank you! ☕♻️🦪
