Film TV and Theatre Creative. Working professionally in the sector for 19 years. Starting off in theatre lighting and Stage management, then moved to being an extra, Assistant Director, and last 13 years as a Location Manager.

Your lead actor demands a pay raise during filming. How do you navigate this unexpected challenge?
If an Actor wants a payrise theres an issue. 1) They were origianally told it was a lower budget and its quite obvious it is bigger. - Fooling an actor in payment originally will not help anyone. You need to budget properly as you will end up paying in line with budget 2) It was not what they signed up for. The roles increased. - This again is where production will have to plan to pay more, or reduce the part back to the agreed 3) The actor is not happy with their conditions. - an open conversation as to what can be improved, may be easier to pay the actor more 4) The other actors are being paid more - actors should all be inline with each other 5) They are just trouble - recast if possible A happy actor will genuinely help moral!

You're facing conflicting creative opinions on set. How do you navigate the director-producer dynamic?
So agree....saying that Although the EP IS the big boss, many EP's are money men, that have no idea about script, story or what will sell! I have worked on many movies where EPs have got OVER involved and the films turned out like a crock of ****. The point of an EP is to make sure they hire the best they can and trust. I totally agree about making sure all voices are heard. Creatively we should make sure ideas are heard from all but the director does have to have that final say, unless it affects budget, moral, legality, or time where the EP needs to step in

How do you handle a situation where the producer insists on changes that compromise the director's vision?
There should be no insist. It should be a collab, and there are times where budgets come into play, and the producer has to say no, or find wys to make things work in different ways. A director needs to realise actual possibilities of budget, science, technology. While the producer needs to understand the vision, creativity, and whats on the screen. Compromise is keya
