Technological University Dublin has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Vision Ireland, the new name for NCBI at a celebratory launch event today at the Wayfinding Centre in Glasnevin. The announcement will see TU Dublin becoming the first Irish university to formalise their partnership with Vision Ireland. Through experiential learning engagements at the centre, the initiative sets out to do two things: to learn how to make transport more accessible to people with disabilities and to support the upskilling of industry professionals working to develop sustainable mobility and active travel infrastructure. The Wayfinding Centre, developed by Vision Ireland, formerly the National Council for the Blind of Ireland (NCBI), is a pan disability training facility that empowers people with an access need to explore public transport. It provides hands-on experience, knowledge, and the opportunity to explore all aspects of transport in a safe and controlled environment, ensuring that individuals are well-prepared to navigate public transport infrastructure independently in the real world. Speaking at the event, TU Dublin’s Interim President, Professor John Doran, emphasised the collaborative nature of the initiative, saying: "Increasing the use of public transport among all citizens will be crucial if Ireland is to achieve its net-zero emissions by 2050. Today’s announcement allows our researchers and students to work alongside people with disabilities to understand the challenges they encounter when using public transport, helping to ensure that every citizen has a voice as Ireland plans for a more sustainable future." #TUDublinSustainability #VisionIreland #SDG9 #SDG10 #SDG11 #SDG17 Lorraine D'Arcy Chris White Kevin Kelly Helena Fitzgerald John Doran Glenn Hingerty David O'Connor Emma Geoghegan Margaret Kinsella Arlene Fox Jennifer McEntee Ajeni Ari Read more: https://lnkd.in/eTWuxrKJ

In this week's #TechEdForGood video, Róisín Faherty, Head of Research and Innovation for the Faculty of Computing, Digital and Data, TU Dublin provides an overview of her research focused on supporting Leaving Certificate Computer Science teachers. Many of these teachers lack formal Computer Science qualifications and the research indicates that their programming self-efficacy is lower than that of Computer Science students in their first month of third level education. To ensure the success of this subject, it's crucial to support teachers in enhancing their programming self-efficacy. DID YOU KNOW… The Clock Tower Building at Grangegorman campus has a varied and interesting past! It has previously functioned as a prison, a fever hospital and later it became part of the Richmond Asylum. After years of abandonment, it was partially refurbished in 2014 and now serves as TU Dublin administration offices, with future plans to restore the entire building. The clock itself is the oldest flatbed mechanical clock in Britain and Ireland and still chimes every hour.
