Promoting the integration of healthtech innovation and healthcare entrepreneurship into medical practice

About us

The healthtech ecosystem has been rapidly evolving over the past decade in Israel and worldwide, setting the stage for major transformations of the medical landscape, but also pointing at major gaps in the ability of health organizations to exploit disruptive opportunities. The pandemic crisis that swept across the world further emphasized the need for a comprehensive and efficient response to a broad range of related operational and technical but also more fundamental issues, ranging from the integration of advanced technologies in disease diagnosis, treatment, and prevention up to reorganization and optimization of medical services. From a broader perspective, this unprecedented situation clearly set the stage for the emergence of a new professional setting. To meet this challenge, the Israeli Society for HealthTech (ISoH-Tech) was founded under the auspices of the Israeli Medical Association (IMA) and with the support of the 8400 Health Network. The overarching mission of the new society is to lay the foundations of a new discipline aimed at integrating innovation and healthcare entrepreneurship into medical practice and across traditional health professions in order to benefit patients and improve quality of care. Our one-year fellowship for board-certified physicians, approved by the Scientific Council of the IMA, is aimed at introducing the senior physicians to the Israeli healthtech ecosystem anticipating that they will form a steadily growing number of bridges between healthcare organizations, academy, and industry. The society is also promoting medical and scientific community engagement in healthtech and biomed activities through a series of monthly webinars (MEDabrim) that are designed to cover most aspects of medical innovation, and through various other activities increasing physician involvement and networking in the healthtech arena. • The exchange of ideas and collaboration between physicians and the industry, are vital for improving understanding and driving productivity in our ecosystem. The vibe was evident as the 3rd cohort of our Fellowship in Innovation and Entrepreneurship recently completed its first internship round - 18 fellowship physicians working with 18 different healthtech/biotech startups and VCs. We gathered fellows, mentors and company representatives to recap their experiences from the internship, and heard uplifting feedback. Coming from often siloed and intense work environments, the professionals truly appreciated the eye-opening discussion that also sparked new opportunities for cooperation and experimentation. Thank you all for your collaboration - ✋Please comment and share if you were there!! Ready for the second round! #ISoHTech #HealthTech #IsraeliInnovation

  • The third cohort of #ISoHTech’s unique Fellowship in Medical Innovation and Entrepreneurship program recently had the privilege of spending a day at Edwards Lifesciences Israel Innovation Center (EIIC) in Caesarea. There we met with several key figures who gave engaging lectures and discussions, a tour and a feel for the excitement of working at an international innovation center. 🟣 Tal Reich, VP Strategy EIIC, introduced us to the history of the company and activities at the site, and walked us around to see innovation in action. He also talked about the essence of strengthening innovation culture within the company. ⚪️ Assaf Bash, SVP, Managing Director EIIC, shared the journey from Startup to Standard of Care with the story of TAVI (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation) - and the cross-pollination and collaboration between engineers and physicians that brought this product to fruition. 🔴 Edna Lazar, Sr. Director, Exploration, provided a different lens to view strategic investments in medtech startups. 🟢 It can be challenging for healthcare professionals and engineers in medical device innovation to work side by side and speak a common language. We were an attentive audience for a great panel EIIC discussion addressing the issue, with Tal Reich as moderator; and Tal Sheps, VP Engineering; David Maimon, VP Engineering; and Ofra Iyun, MD, Sr. Principal Engineer, Software. 🟤 Lior Raviv, CTO at Pluri, took us to new dimensions in Cell Therapy – past, present and future. 🟡 Fellowship physicians Shira Fraenkel and Dr. Jimmy E. Jadaon from our cohort, gave touching accounts of their personal and professional stories in an iTED talk. [Written by 3rd cohort fellow Prof. Hagai Levine 🙏] #healthtech #IsraeliInnovation

Health Leaders from Jerusalem and West Bank visit ALYN Hospital in Jerusalem. We learned a lot from their impressive experience. We believe in exposure, meeting new people, learning about new working models, and healthcare services, especially for children rehabilitation. We were hosted by ALYN Hospital's remarkable Director General, Maurit Beeri, and the experienced dedicated Deputy Director Arie Melamed, both were very generous to share their experience with our group and took us for a tour of the hospital facilities including the innovation sector. We had the chance to listen to the experiences and insightful view form an entrepreneur Nimrod Zilcha, founder and CEO of Cognishine, and we learned about Navigating Virtual Water from Prof. Tamar Weiss, while Ahmi Ben-Yehudah, PhD took through the clinical needs and research validation, and the day closed with a fantastic session about success in rehabilitation by hilla Boral Director of PELE program at Alyn hospital. We admire all the support we are receiving from Hedva Voliovitch M.D, Ph.D, M.B.A from the Israeli Society for HealthTech as well as Jafar Mahfouz, Ezadeen Alsaad, Rana Al Qawasmi, and Mahmoud Khweis from JINNOVATE Jerusalem Innovation HealthTech Center This program is funded by USAID Building Regional Economic Bridges (BREB) Activity The video was created by our candidate Mais Abu Gharbieh, General Director and Founder, Fizik Clinik
