PANDEMIC, LOCKDOWN, QUARANTINE, COVID, etc. were some words which became a part of our everyday vocabulary in 2020 when the world came to a standstill. Locked in our homes, it seemed like a safe haven to most of us. But not for everyone. Not for the ones living in slums surrounding our high rises. Not for the ones who lost their livelihoods and faced acute financial crisis. Inspired by the famous adage, “If you are more fortunate than others, build a longer table. Not a taller fence”; we founded Adopt a Family (AAF) in October 2020. We are Pune based IT professionals who share a common goal to alleviate hunger and poverty by proverbially “building a longer table” and long-term sustenance. Our Adopt a Family (AAF) journey started by delivering ration kits to 50 visually impaired families who had lost their employment at the start of the Pandemic, which led us to feeding over 200 people every month. Through this initiative we are providing a monthly ration kit covering basic food items and daily necessities such as rice, pulses, wheat, toothpaste, soap, etc. We have tied up with a whole - seller in Pune who helps with supplying the ration kits and a set of volunteers who help verify the beneficiaries and distribute kits. This eliminates any involvement of middleman and kits reach the beneficiaries directly. Our aim is to adopt 100 families every year and make them self-reliant and create long term employment opportunities for them. We urge you to join us in our mission of uplifting families and create sustainable communities. A donor can directly pay to the supplier or through a Milaap campaign
