We're delighted to share that this year, we celebrate 25 years of Dasra being in service of anchoring transformative impact in India. This journey has been one of recognizing the deep inequities that live among us, by making visible the invisible and bridging these vast divides. It has been about sparking determination, not pity. It has been about challenging the status quo, the courage to take paths less travelled and the willingness to immerse in the shared truths of our vulnerabilities. It has been about making philanthropy work for communities, not for privilege. It has called for nurturing trust and radical kindness; the empathy to explore possibilities and the humility to accept these in our oneness. This journey has been about a fierce ambition to be uncompromising, to satiate the hunger for learning and to have the audacity to amplify the most vulnerable of voices. It has required perseverance, empathy, and gusto: true moral courage for sustenance. It has for us inspired leadership that adjusts the sails to catch the wind to imagine possibilities in pursuit of a higher purpose, bigger than ourselves but that together is surmountable. For us, it has been a journey of combining the power of the mind and the courage of the heart to tackle large-scale inequities. As we look forward, we remain committed to our vision of transforming India anchored around our ethos of empowering communities to "thrive through equity". It seems like a long journey thus far, but for us, the journey has just begun. #thrivethroughequity #ABillionThriving #Dasraat25 Neera Nundy Deval Sanghavi Shailja Mehta Jyotirmoy Chatterji Ninad Ankleshwaria Parnasha Banerjee Dinella Oliveira

Hazaribagh, also known as the “Land of Thousand Gardens” is home to the rich tribal heritage of the Santhals, Mundas, and Oraons. But industrial activities have displaced many of these communities, threatening their livelihoods and cultural identity. Here’s how Jan Sahyog Kendra (JSK) is making a difference #OnGround: 💧 जल - Water for livelihoods In Gomiya block, where finding water was once a daily struggle, JSK helped form a "Paani Samiti" (water committee). This initiative restored a local pond, providing water to villages and sustaining a fishery, creating a sustainable livelihood. 🌳 जंगल और ज़मीन - Forest and Land During his awareness-building engagements, Narendra Mahato from Jan Sahyog Kendra (JSK) discovered that the area lacked a forest map or any legal document verifying that the villagers were living in forest dwellings. Since then, Jan Sahyog Kendra has been a bridge between the community and the Gram Sabha, helping the tribal communities stake a claim, or "daava," to the land they inhabit under the Forest Rights Act (FRA). “We’ve ensured 43 individuals in Kharna-Bokaro secured their Individual Forest Rights with government support,” says Narendra Mahato of Jan Sahyog Kendra. This is achieved through detailed forest mapping, conducted BY the community and FOR the community. 📚 Education and Empowerment: Jan Sahyog Kendra has formed adolescent groups to teach children from classes 1-5, filling the gap left by limited educational resources. Self Help Groups are linking families to the ‘Phulo Jaano Yojana,’ a government initiative in Jharkhand to promote sustainable livelihood opportunities for women who are associated with selling and manufacturing liquor. Through this scheme, women are provided with an interest-free loan and encouraged to start an alternative livelihood source of their own. Earlier this Spring, leaders from Rebuild's partner organizations from Assam – Ajagar Social Circle, Diya Foundation, and Grameen Sahara – planned an exposure visit to another peer, UTMT Society's operational area in Palghar, Maharashtra. This visit was facilitated by the peers by leveraging the Rebuild India Fund platform. Tomorrow is #WorldHoneyBeeDay and we are excited to present a video showcasing this visit to UTMT Society. But first, 🐝 How can beekeeping advance to level 'bees-knees'? UTMT Society shows us how by promoting beekeeping with indigenous bees like Apis cerana indica and Trigona to boost agricultural productivity and enhance biodiversity, incomes and livelihoods for small and marginal farmers in India. In just 15 years, UTMT Society has made a HIVE of a difference, positively impacting over 151,000 lives in 361 villages across Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh. Their efforts have created new livelihood opportunities, particularly for women in rural areas, with over 1,700 women trained as beekeepers. UTMT Society’s “beekeeping ecosystem” is more than just a buzzword. By developing this ecosystem, they have catalyzed micro-entrepreneurship in allied activities such as bee flora cultivation and bee box carpentry. UTMT Society’s knowledge has not been confined to their own operations but has resulted in the transfer of their expertise to other regions, including Assam. “We were able to share what worked for us and what didn’t work. This was an exciting opportunity to collaborate with Rebuild NGO partners. The learning we have had is a great opportunity to avoid past mistakes and move forward collectively.” – Sujana Krishnamoorthy, UTMT Society. Here’s to many more buzzworthy collaborations in Rebuild India Fund and a fantastic World Honey Bee Day! If you are interested to invest in livelihoods such as beekeeping for marginalized communities or knowing more about how beekeeping can be made a success, please reach out to us or drop a comment.
