At SCEH, our unwavering commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 1 – No Poverty – is at the heart of everything we do. One of our key initiatives, the Door-to-Door Screening program, plays a crucial role in this mission by providing essential eye care services directly to underserved communities, including daily wage labourers who cannot afford to miss work. For many labourers and workers, taking time off to visit a hospital means losing a day’s pay, which can result in financial strain and even hunger for their families. Our Door-to-Door Screening program addresses this challenge by bringing eye care directly to their homes. This ensures they receive the necessary treatment without having to sacrifice their livelihoods. 89 Vision centres in tier 3 & 4 towns ensure that not just screening but diagnosis and treatment is easily accessible. By reaching families in their own communities, we ensure that children receive the care they need for a healthier start in life, reducing the risk of long-term poverty due to untreated visual impairments. A Day of Insight and Innovation at Dr. Shroff's Charity Cataract Symposium '24! 🌟 On 1st September 2024, we hosted a landmark event, the Dr. Shroff's Charity Cataract Symposium '24 at our Daryaganj hospital. This academic meet brought together over 100 ophthalmologists and fellows from Delhi NCR, all focused on the latest advancements in cataract surgery and care. The symposium was a testament to SCEH's unwavering commitment to delivering world-class vision care, especially to those in need. But at just four years old, her world turned dark when she was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a rare and deadly eye cancer. With treatment costs beyond her family's reach, hope seemed lost. That’s when the Koshika Foundation stepped in to provide life-saving care. Thanks to this timely intervention, Monika received the treatment she needed—just in time. Today, at eight years old, Monika is thriving. She has a prosthetic (artificial) left eye and clear vision in her right. She’s excelling in school and enjoying life with her friends, with a future full of promise. In India, 50 percent of children with this deadly eye cancer lose their sight and life. But as Monika’s story shows, early detection and swift, collaborative action can save both sight and life. Koshika Foundation's support for the cause of retinoblastoma has helped us treat children with this rare eye cancer, saving sight and saving lives. With the rise of myopia (short-sightedness), our school eye screening camps are more crucial than ever. These camps focus on early detection of refractive errors, ensuring students receive the necessary corrective care. Students with other eye conditions are also identified and referred to our base hospital for further treatment. By providing comprehensive eye exams, raising awareness about eye health, and offering immediate corrective measures, these camps significantly enhance the quality of life for students.
