Earth Day Network India is happy to announce the ‘Litter Free India Champions’. We are honoured to have as partner Litter Free India, whose founder is the very well-known Plogman of India, Mr Ripudaman Bevli. Mr Bevli is also Earth Day Ambassador and recognized as our Athletes for the Earth. Mr Sawan Kanojia is recognized as a Litter Free India Champion. Founder of the Environment Club, Sawan has been involved in the cleanliness of Meerut City with his team for the last couple of years and also works on Wildlife Protection, a Plastic-Free Environment, etc. Sawan is also a recipient of the Water Hero Award from Jalshakti Ministry Govt. of India, Earth Day hero, and the Young Environmentalist Award from Zee News. Mr Swana was presented with the Certificate on May 02, 2024. The chief guests for the event were IFS Rajesh Kumar, DFO Meerut, and Rumit Walia from EARTHDAY.ORG - India. During the event, a collective cleanliness drive was conducted in Sanjay Van, and the collected plastic waste was handed over to the Nagar Nigam Meerut for recycling. Yesterday I had fortune to attend the "Making Mumbai Future Ready: The Sustainable Way" event organized by IMC CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY. Ms. KARUNA SINGH Regional Director Asia, EARTHDAY.ORG - India delivered a powerful presentation on the economic harm caused by plastic and the necessity for cities like Mumbai to become plastic-free. Her insights were compelling, highlighting the urgent need for sustainable practices to protect both the environment and the economy. Mr. Ram Gandhi's welcome remarks set the tone for the evening, emphasizing the importance of sustainability for Mumbai's future. Mr. Bittu Sahgal discussed the critical steps needed to create a future-ready Mumbai, focusing on environmental activism and conservation. Mr. Rajesh Choudhury enlightened us on rainwater harvesting and its vital role in water conservation. Mr. Neelakantan Aiyyar's talk on urban forestry highlighted the significance of green spaces in urban areas. Ms. Anjali Parasnis Parasnis provided insightful information on wastewater recycling and management, a crucial aspect of sustainable urban living. Ms. Pratibha Pai shared valuable perspectives on rural sustainability and its importance for Mumbai. and shared inspiring story of change they bringing in rural communities. Ms. Prachi Shevgaonkar inspired us with her story and practical steps for individual actions to reduce carbon footprints. The panel discussion on media's role in promoting sustainability, moderated by Mr. Ramesh Narayan, featured insights from industry leaders like Mr. Partha Sinha, Mr. Abhishek Karnani, and Mr. Neeraj Roy. Ms. Prerana Langa's session on withstanding climate disasters and reducing carbon emissions was both informative and motivational. Finally, Mr. Dhanpal Jhaveri discussed the financial opportunities tied to sustainability, providing a broader economic perspective.
