Such great content demanded an interesting promotional campaign too. Enter ESPNcricinfo! This World Cup, we created a whole host of exciting content properties that centered around the core communication for Watcho. The foremost of these was our flagship show – Timeout powered by DishTV Watcho. The show featured leading voices from the game like Anil Kumble, Andy Flower, NZ captain, Stephen Fleming, Tom Moody, Urooj Mumtaz, Ian Bishop, Aaron Finch, Morne Morkel Tamin Iqbal, Nick Knight, Daren Ganga and others. Our rich, power-packed panel of experts brought alive the game, as they dissected the day’s happenings for cricket fans. A special feature of this show during every India game 🏏was the DishTV Watcho Entertainer of the Day. This was a segment dedicated to celebrating the contribution of the one player that played the best cameo – and therefore the perfect entertainment – of the day! These videos were also incorporated into the India – England semifinal show and that on the day of the finals too. DishTV Watcho presents Haan ya Na – this is one show that every fan loved, without exception! It’s an extremely simple, straightforward format: our experts give the answers to the foremost questions on every fan’s mind, in a Yes or a No. The simplistic, non-complicated nature of this video helped make it one of our most-consumed, most-loved properties during the T20 World Cup. All we’d say is that the “keep it simple” maxim was proven true yet again! Mithali and popular sports presenter Bhavna Balakrishnan explored modern-day icons of women's cricket, truly made for more. As we moved to the IPL, Maruti Suzuki came onboard as the presenting sponsors on ESPNcricinfo’s daily video show – Timeout, featuring top cricket experts who dissected the day’s happenings. From Steve Smith and Irfan Pathan to Ian Bishop, Tom Moody, and Varun Aaron – the flagship show saw a power-packed combine. The T20 World Cup began with a singular event, Maruti Suzuki Arena presents T20 Rendezvous in association with JBL, where two reputed thought leaders from the game – Irfan Pathan and Mathew Hayden – came together in a unique setting in the presence of a live audience who were in for a real feast! Through their Beyond Boundaries initiative, the global leader in logistics has been delivering cricket kits to deserving young cricketers across different nations. And this time, they brought this initiative to the USA and West Indies as well. So, it was only apt that when ESPNcricinfo collaborated with the logistics giant, we decided to go beyond boundaries and help deliver to fans an incredible experience during the T20 World Cup. Every match during the mega tournament was an epic encounter – and victories were made possible through the collective contribution of every player. Especially the ones that provided critical performances in more than one area – the allrounders. Just like DP World, these are players that truly went beyond their calling and created a conducive environment for their team to go closer to victory. The daily video show DP World presents Going Beyond Boundaries was an example in quality bespoke brand-led content.     There’s content that evokes, content that intrigues, and content that seeks to bring about change. Then again, there’s content that brings a smile to your face. This is about one such video series that we recently had the privilege of collaborating on. ESPNcricinfo and Classmate by ITC joined forces to create a series of videos aimed at making learning fun. Our goal was to steer clear of preachy or didactic tones and instead develop content that is light-hearted, relaxed, and valuable to every viewer. Thus, Get School’d with Classmate was born. This fun series of videos features some of the most popular cricket luminaries meeting their match in... kids! Viewers got to see the likes of Ian Bishop, Aaron Finch, Irfan Pathan, Varun Aaron, and Tom Moody being grilled by a panel of schoolkids on a variety of topics. From Gen Z buzzwords and tantalizing IPL trivia to signature cricket techniques and personal milestones, these experts faced "bouncers and yorkers" from their young interviewers in every video. Classmate, as a brand and an identity, was seamlessly woven into each video. Users learned about Classmate’s cool new set of Interaktiv AR notebooks, which allow kids to explore space, the solar system, evolution, and other fascinating concepts simply by scanning the QR code on the notebook cover. They were also introduced to the Classmate Origami series, which teaches kids to create fun shapes through the Japanese art of paper-folding. Additionally, viewers discovered that they can choose from over 3000 different designs to custom-design their notebooks! In essence, these videos perfectly blended learning and fun, engaging cricket fans during the season’s most anticipated tournament. Get School’d with Classmate: where cricket legends meet their match and learning becomes a joyous game!     As the game evolves, fans witness the rise in caliber of the players entering the fray. All 3 disciplines – batting, bowling, and fielding – have seen a tremendous rise in quality and performance since the last 10 years or so. So, when debutants step on to the field in 2024, they are already a few steps ahead of their predecessors. Then why do many still falter and step away prematurely? The primary reason for this lies in the overwhelming pressure, which has grown exponentially, especially with social media becoming the main platform for fan engagement. When a popular cricketer walks on to take guard, he is immediately surrounded by an immense amount of noise all around him. From fans shouting in the stands, to millions expressing their opinions on social media – any player will be inundated by it all, unless he learns to mute the world. Only those who drown out unwanted noise and get into their zone will truly emerge victorious. It is this very expression, that brought JBL and ESPNcricinfo together this IPL, as we presented a unique series of engaging content for fans. One of the standout pillars for this initiative was ESPNcricinfo’s flagship show, 'Timeout powered by JBL,' where renowned cricket experts provided robust and uninhibited opinions on every match. Another key component was the "JBL Mute the World Performer" segment, celebrating players who managed to block out the noise and deliver outstanding performances consistently. The campaign also included contributions from popular cricket influencers, who shared their insights on how top performers were able to #MuteTheWorld and make a significant impact on the tournament.
