9 Tests of Organization Structure: A Framework for Organizational Success Have you ever wondered if your organization's structure is truly aligned with its strategy and goals? If so, you're not alone. Many organizations struggle to create a structure that enables them to achieve their full potential. That's where the 9 Tests of Organization Structure come in. The 9 Tests have their roots in the work of Alfred Chandler, who argued that organizational structures must evolve in response to changes in the business environment. First published in the Harvard Business Review in March 2002, Andrew Campbell and Michael Goold built upon Chandler's insights to create a more comprehensive and practical framework for evaluating the effectiveness of an organization's structure; Fit Tests and Good Design Tests. Fit Tests assess how well an organization's structure aligns with its strategy, culture, and external environment. They include: 1. Product-Market Strategy Test: Does the structure support the organization's chosen markets and products? 2.
