Embracing Opportunities and Challenges, Growing Through Learning- Ranjan Chatterjee
Is there something about dates and destiny? On 1 February 2006, I joined Forbes Marshall at the Kolkata branch. The day happily coincided with my marriage anniversary. Prior to joining FM, I had worked in four different Organisations in different cities.
The Level 1 Training at Pune helped me smoothly onboard in the company. The week-long classroom and practical training ignited my interest in Steam Engineering and Process Controls. Thanks to Mukund Deshpande, Abhijit Kumbhar, and others, who created such an informal and vibrant atmosphere.
My first responsibility at Forbes Marshall was to develop the business in the Oil & Petrochemical (OPC) vertical in Eastern India. Amit Kundu was my first Manager. I visited and surveyed plants in the East and North East, where customers became good friends. Joy Dutt (Joyda), who used to head the OPC business, encouraged me to work with a lot of freedom. I developed a special affinity for Concept and Services Sales. The business grew handsomely too.
In 2008, the OPC Business of North India was added to my responsibility and I started reporting to Narinder Sharma (Sharmaji), the then Zonal Manager, who inspired me with his way of developing Customer Relationships. The OPC Business in the North East grew significantly.
In 2010-11, I became the Regional Manager of the Kolkata Branch. It was my first exposure to Process Industries and the team was young too. I learnt from Arghay Das about Process Industry applications through our numerous joint visits. Our young team aspired to make Kolkata the best branch in the country and won the best branch award twice.
In 2014, I took up responsibility as the Regional Manager of Delhi and moved with my family.
In 2016, I became the Zonal Manager for the Delhi, Chandigarh, Kolkata, and Lucknow branches. Here, I cannot emphasise enough the unwavering support I received from Paras, Ankur, Narendra Pratap, Kailash, Arghay and Deepak. I continued this role till 2020 and I was very fortunate to have two stalwarts of FM as my managers, namely Sharmaji and Jayesh Shah (Jayeshbhai). I developed a huge respect for their work ethics and passion for FM.
In 2021, I moved to the Strategic Cell at Pune, guided by Satyadeo Purohit and Mehul Vaidya. Few individuals and the overall culture of the organisation played a big part in my journey at FM.
Satyadeo Purohit has been a guiding light throughout my journey in FM. I learnt immensely from him.
Naushad Forbes’s energy, brilliance, humility, and friendliness have had a profound influence on me. Also, FM’s ethics, business model, and family spirit resonate deeply with me.
Lastly, FM is about making friendships beyond work. While it is difficult to mention individuals, I value their friendship and hope the journey continues for years to come.
