So, I’m in the middle of teaching Machine Learning, trying to break down the concept of overfitting. And I think, "How can I make this absolutely clear?" Then, I come up with this analogy: Imagine you’re prepping for a surprise test. But instead of just focusing on the important stuff, you decide to go above and beyond. You memorize every single word, every footnote, and even that coffee stain on page 42. The day of the test arrives, and you walk in with the confidence of someone who knows the exact number of commas in the textbook. Then, BAM! The professor strolls in and casually announces, “Surprise! It’s an open-book test.” Now, you’re sitting there, book open, realizing you memorized the coffee stain, but forgot how to actually solve the problems. Classic overfitting—focusing so much on the details that you missed the bigger picture!

Hello everyone, I am glad and excited to share that I have secured AIR - 57 in GATE CS 2024!!! I am grateful to my parents for supporting my decision to drop a year for GATE preparation and supporting me in all aspects during my preparation. I am grateful to my elder brother, Aman Rawat, for guiding me through my GATE journey, whether they were suggesting me strategies, resources, materials ("goclasses test series") to follow, or even focusing on minute details like using scribble pad-sized sheet(A5) for all the writing and problem-solving instead of using A4 size sheet. He was the one who encouraged me to religiously take full length tests every 3rd day when I was in state of being a "perpetual learner" (waiting for the right moment to give tests which would have never arrived), even if I hadn't completely revised. Heartfelt thanks to all the professors (Prof. B.K. Singh, Dr. Rajeev Singh, Dr. Abhishek Yadav, etc.) of my college for developing my interest in the Computer Science field and helping me understand that this field has much greater depths than just coding in front of a monitor. It was enlightening when they integrated philosophy into their lectures, providing another perspective on the topics, or even when they posed seemingly simple questions like "Difference between discrete and continuous" (which truly opened my eyes). Thanks to Sachin Mittal sir, Deepak Poonia sir, Mallesham Devasane sir, Vishvadeep Gothi sir, Satish Yadav sir (BABA sir), Ankit Doyla sir, Vijay Aggarwal sir, Khaleel Ahmed sir, and others for their lectures and knowledge, which fueled my preparation. I am grateful to GO Classes and GATE Overflow Educational Foundation for their wonderful test series, which helped me clear my misconceptions and provided an experience close to the GATE exam (especially #AIMTs with the solution videos uploaded on YouTube). The questions were sourced from standard resources and also from homework assignments of top universities. (When I was taking my real GATE exam, it felt like I was attending another test from the test series, AIMT-6 to be specific 😅). A piece of advice to future aspirants: Try avoiding being a perpetual learner during your preparation. Don't wait for the right moment for giving tests. Just test yourself as they are the way to get timely feedback (Veritasium video : "The 4 things it takes to be an expert" [https://lnkd.in/dz6MwJVz]), even though I fail to follow that always 😅 , but that is the key.
