Recently, the Impact Team from Acumen visited Green Worms as part of their Decent Jobs study. This study aims to explore how early-stage enterprises can create better workplaces and more dignified livelihoods. It complements a quantitative study conducted by 60 Decibels, which focuses on understanding worker priorities. Acumen's study delves deeper into the aspirations, priorities, barriers, and gaps faced by workers. During the two-day visit, the team conducted qualitative interviews with Green Worms founders and key administrative team members. They also held detailed focus group discussions with facility staff and women waste-preneurs from our partner villages.

Green Worms has been featured in the new edition of the Plastics Circularity Investment Tracker by The Circulate Initiative in Collaboration with IFC Climate & Sustainability. The launch comes at a pivotal time as negotiations towards a global plastics treaty reach the final stage. The third edition of the Plastics Circularity Investment Tracker highlights the significant financing gap that exists in tackling plastic pollution and the critical role private investments play in addressing it. This report provides the latest data and insights on the state of private investments in plastics circularity and sheds light on several examples of successful private capital mobilization. With ongoing discussions on the international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment (ILBI), the findings signal the urgent need for greater transparency to support data-driven decision making. Green Worms has teamed up with RiverRecycle and Kochi Municipal Corporation to prevent plastic waste from reaching water bodies. Together, we cleaned Rameswaram Canal in Kochi, which was clogged with a plastic waste dump. Every year, an estimated 8 million tonnes of plastic waste enter the oceans, equivalent to a garbage truck dumping every minute. Plastic waste primarily reaches the ocean through rivers, canals, and other water bodies. This initiative is possible only through the shared-mission approach. We need more such partnership models to stop plastic pollution & to make a transition to Circularity. Do reach out to our colleague Marwan P.J, MBA, CMA to learn more about the initiative and explore partnership opportunities.

We are excited to welcome our new Investor Acumen Acumen is a leading Patient Capital fund investing in social enterprises that create lasting social impact while generating financial returns. Unlike traditional venture capital, Acumen focuses on building sustainable businesses serving marginalized communities & creating sustainable value chains. Together, we will be Co-creating Jobs & Circularity for the Brands and Manufactures by demonstrating value chains that are impactful, traceable and Compliant. At Green Worms we're on a mission to mitigate poverty and plastics in our environment,” says Jabir Karat, Co-founder & CEO. “Our process creates traceability, transparency, and most importantly safe and dignified jobs for women from socio-economically backward conditions.” Why Acumen invested in Green Worms? To break the cycle of poverty, people need safe, stable jobs that pay fair wages. This belief is central to our investments in workforce development around the world, from Latin America to West Africa to India. In India, we believe that it is possible to transform unorganized and extractive supply chains creating safe and dignified jobs for those who have been unable to escape the poverty trap. Green Worms epitomizes this possibility. Our investment in the company will help it continue its transformation of waste management in southwest India. It will also demonstrate to others a replicable model for partnerships with self-help groups and other collectives in waste collection, thus magnifying the opportunity for impact. “This is about more than dignified jobs,” says Acumen Associate Director, Portfolio – India, Paraag Sabhlok. “It’s about more than the Circular Economy. It’s about behavior change. Green Worms is building a movement that inspires change among waste generators, waste collectors, and across the value chain of stakeholders.” Below find more details about the funding announcement from Acumen. https://lnkd.in/gfZTiCRK #impactinvesting #circulareconomy #impactinvestment #Circularity #plasticwaste #wastemanagement #diignifiedjobs #Sustainability #CorporateSustainability #SocialProcurement

Earlier this month our Co-Founder Akshay Gunteti was part of ANDE South Asia Waste and Circularity Policy Working Group in Delhi! The ANDE Waste and Circularity policy working group is designed to engage a wide variety of ecosystem actors to advise on policy priorities at the national and sub-national level. We discussed key strategies for enhancing circularity in India's textile hubs and addressing policy challenges in textile waste management. As eloquently put by Prajakta Verma IAS, Joint secretary, Ministry Of Textiles, Government of India, "Sustainability in textiles is an important theme that requires collaborative efforts among multiple actors to ensure effective forward and backward linkages. The Ministry is committed to working with all stakeholders to establish a robust policy framework for sustainability and circularity, which will, in turn, enable these ventures to thrive. The aim of our policy working group is to partner with local advocacy partner organizations to connect public and private ecosystem actors, validate policy recommendations, and advocate for policy reform in the waste management and circular economy sectors. This session activities are conducted by advocacy partners Centre for Responsible Business and Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) . Green Worms team is glad to be part of this working group along with our Investors Chakravarthy AB from Upaya Social Ventures Green Worms is actively working in Co-creating Textile Waste value chain in India especially at the last-mile with exclusive Textile Recovery Facility. Green Worms will be setting up a Textile Recycling unit to manufacture Felt that has various applications across the industries including Textiles, automobiles, construction, furniture and many more to Co-creating Circular Value chains that are impactful, traceable and compliant. #textilewaste #textilecircularity #fastfashion #textiles #circularfashion #circulareconomy #traceability
