The domestic agro-chemical industry faced several headwinds over FY24 with domestic demand affected by the weak monsoons while the global slowdown affected exports. Resultantly, channel inventories, created in anticipation of a rise in global demand, piled up even as elevated interest rates increased carrying costs. With a minimal volume growth and a sharp fall in prices, the segment’s aggregate EBITDA fell almost 40%yoy in FY24, causing some weakening in the otherwise strong balance sheets. Normalisation of channel inventory would be key to the sector’s recovery.
