The horrific rape at RG Kar Medical College has shaken us, forcing us to confront the harsh reality that, for many, true freedom remains out of reach. This year, we cannot celebrate. How can we wave the flag and speak of freedom when our sisters, daughters, and friends are not safe? How can we rejoice when our society is torn by violence and injustice? In honor of those who have suffered, we choose not to partake in festivities. Instead, we stand in protest, refusing to be silent in the face of such brutality. It involves a public procession with a chariot with deities on a Ratha which is celebrated to commemorate the journey of the divine to bless and unite with devotees. The chariots are pulled by thousands of devotees, signifying unity and devotion. It's believed that participating in the Rath Yatra cleanses one's sins and brings spiritual fulfilment.
