SYSTRA is proud to have partnered with CMRL to come up with innovative design ideas for the Chennai Metro’s Phase 1 Extension and Phase 2, driving sustainability and significant cost savings. Over a period of ten years, our designers did a massive job of overhauling the station design using the first principles of engineering to ensure a reduction in CAPEX and OPEX and timely delivery of the project. Groundbreaking design solutions produced by SYSTRA, like the one-sided Tunnel Ventilation Fan (TVF), reduction in the number of TVFs, and compact underground stations accommodating all technical rooms inside the station's underground footprint. These efforts helped in reducing CAPEX by over ₹25,000 crore and slashed OPEX by 40% in Phase 2 of the same project. We provided ingenious ideas to overcome land constraints and alignment challenges, earning global recognition for excellence. We are grateful for the constant motivation and support provided by CMRL Ex. MD Mr. Pankaj Kumar Bansal. Without his vision, this pathbreaking approach toward new-age station design could not have been possible. Our team led by Ritesh Singh, Sureche, and Dr. Nishith worked extensively to bring this one-side TVF system to fruition. The solution involved creating a bypass duct in the undercroft zone to effectively implement the one-sided TVF, ensuring the new ventilation scheme's success. This change has gained international recognition and global accreditation, ultimately demonstrating that CONFIDENCE MOVES THE WORLD.
