At the Ministry of Health in Timor-Leste, Ministério da Saúde presented its collaborative efforts with World Health Organization Timor-Leste and highlighted the health milestones achieved since the country's independence two decades ago. Present were Minister of Health Dr. Élia A. A. dos Reis Amaral; Vice Minister of Institutional Strengthening of Health Dr. Jose Reis Magno, Vice Minister of Operations Dr Flavio Brandao, and World Health Organization Timor-Leste Representative Dr Arvind Mathur.

Regional Director, Saima Wazed inaugurated multiple projects at the Institute of Public Health in Timor-Leste (#INSPTL): - Simulation Skills Centre: With WHO's technical support, the institute has established state-of-the-art 'skill labs' or 'simulation centres' at major teaching hospitals and institutions. These labs, equipped with high-fidelity mannequins, will enhance the practical skills of healthcare professionals, particularly in mother and child care and emergency care. - Strengthening the Library: Regional Director handed over nearly 300 medical and nursing education books to strengthen the capacity of the INSP-TL library. These books, covering various fields of medicine and nursing—including anatomy, public health, surgery, emergency medicine, maternal and child health, and epidemiology — will help both students and teachers. - Groundbreaking Ceremony of the Field Epidemiology Training Center: Ministério da Saúde & the National Institute of Public Health are establishing the Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) Resource Center with WHO support. This Center will provide training, mentorship, and hands-on experience, serving as a platform to broaden its global network. I was joined by Dr. Élia A. A. dos Reis Amaral (Minister of Health), Park Sungheui (Deputy Chief of Mission, #Korean Embassy), Younhwa Kang (#KOICA Country Director), World Health Organization Timor-Leste Representative Dr Arvind Mathur, & Dr. Merita, President of INSP-TL. - National Influenza Center: Officially designated Timor-Leste’s National Health Laboratory as a National Influenza Center, which will be instrumental in regional efforts, providing crucial data and insights to guide national and regional response strategies.
