  • Community Based System Design for Indian Railways in the Context of Senior Citizens

    IFIP TC13 - INTERACT

    The research was based in the domain of Indian Railways with respect to senior citizens and was directed towards making journeys more harmonious and pleasant while allowing dependants to plan their travel without the fear and anxiety of travelling alone, in the company of a travel buddy. The research proposes the solution of voluntary passenger collaboration in order to incur minimum infrastructure and cost overheads while empowering dependants through a democratic approach.

  • Slow Fun Design - Social Experiment at Berlin Subways

    Taking the 'Fun Theory' and 'The Slow Movement' culture as a basis of inspiration the 'Slow Fun Design' project aims to slow down the rushing crowd at the Berlin metro stations. The objective was to break the habituation of the everyday mundane tasks, in this case, the ticket stamping process and introduce a moment of fun.

    This project was done as a part of Indian Railway's 'Design for Railways' Initiative in order to create efficient framework for the IRCTC website and improve the online ticket booking experience, as well as other services provided by the IRCTC website. It involves understanding the drawbacks of the existing website and coming up with solutions and features to create an immersive experience.

  • Story-Telling by Data​: India's Nuclear Journey

    The project aims to build a narrative out of qualitative data. The main challenge was to invent a visualisation technique for qualitative data based on the chosen topic which was India’s nuclear journey post colonial independence. It’s a story of India from being a rogue nation, to emerging as one of the nuclear triads.

    A student design hackathon organised by Microsoft was held at Manipal Institute of Technology for two days which involved designing an application for Windows web-store, based on Metro UI design guidelines and Visual Studio 2013. The application 'Pocket-Biz-Buddy' was developed which focused on financial calculations and real time data procurement. The project was done in a group of three: Aasha Kumari, Atul Kumar, and Chhayank Ankur.
