To me, trust and clear communication are vital when leading remote teams across time zones. In the military, coordinating with units in different regions taught me the importance of reliable communication and mutual trust. Establish consistent communication channels and regular check-ins. Be mindful of different time zones when scheduling meetings. Set clear expectations and goals, and leverage technology to keep everyone connected. Recognize and appreciate the efforts of remote team members to keep them engaged and motivated. With 34 years of military leadership and nearly two decades in the corporate world, I've learned that effective remote leadership requires trust, clarity, and adaptability.

Understand Fear: Resistance often stems from fear of making mistakes or facing the unknown. Having fear is one thing and displaying it is another. Leaders must build trust and confidence by not letting fear show. Demonstrate your faith in your team’s abilities and provide consistent support, showing that their success is your priority.

I go beyond motivation to Inspiration. I believe that Motivation requires an external source and lasts a short while when you need another dose to maintain the momentum. Turn motivation into "Inspiration." An internal desire to do something. Inspiration is from within and if coupled with a strong mission, becomes long lasting.
