Harish Subramanian is an Indian designer specializing in design for social innovation. He is currently a Partner and Creative Head at Studio Subu — a design and communications firm based in Goa, India.

Harish started his career in advertising at JWT New York and transitioned to working in the social impact space to drive change through design. His work focuses on building accessible and inclusive experiences stemming from user behaviour studies. He uses human-centred design principles as his framework to develop design strategies and improve engagement. Harish brings almost a decade of experience in interface design, design research, print production and 360 brand development.

Harish holds a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His work has been internationally recognised and awarded the William Drenttel Award for Excellence in Design (2016).

Harish also runs an experimental project on the side called Lil Subu. Lil Subu is an initiative to provide fun, engaging drawings for kids for free. It is an open-source archive with a collection of ready-to-use colouring sheets hand-drawn by Harish.

    As a Partner, I have been responsible for all business development operations. This includes team and business management, 
new business acquisition including outreach plans, pitch proposals and partnership negotiations.

    ---Research---
    I have set up the research practice at the Studio, and have conducted qualitative, discussion groups, ethnographic and workshop led research 
with our target audiences. The research findings inform all design choices.

    I have played a key role in building the firm’s foundation in user experience design, design systems, and human-centred approach to problem-solving. 
I have led and trained my team through all stages of work from concept to implementation. The processes have helped build sustainable and scalable designs that are targeted around solving for specific challenges.
