Information Technology Network Engineer

We are looking for a Network Engineer who is responsible for the Design, Engineering, Optimization, and Tier 2/3 support of the overall data network. This person will collaborate with other team members to define, document, and enforce network standards

.The Network Engineer may be engaged to assist with special projects as requested by senior leadership pertaining to specific technologies and/or solutions. This individual may also lead or assist with research initiatives being led by the Network Engineering organization. Finally, the Network Engineer will coach/mentor less experienced network engineers

Your Role...

• Lead in the creation or augmentation of network design concepts to create a network infrastructure that is resilient, high performing, and scalable. This includes the creation of High-Level Design documents (HLD’s) and Low-Level Design documents (LLD’s)
• Initiate requests for information (RFI) or requests for proposal (RFP) and forward to network component vendor(s) to procure technical information and/or pricing information required for said vendor evaluation or high-level bill-of-materials
• Lead the execution of Proof of Concept (POC) tests in the laboratory to validate network design concepts. This includes the creation of a test plan and results document
• Create a high-level bill-of-materials (BOM) required to implement the specified network design concept. This is a budgetary estimate only.
• Keep abreast of all new technologies and remain engaged with all applicable industry new features on existing hardware/software platforms that could benefit Varex Imaging
• Identify network design flaws and subsequently create plans to mitigate said flaws
• Provide 2nd/3rd tier escalation support for complex network problems and/or customer issues. This includes being available for on-call support
• Mentor less experienced engineers to help grow their knowledge and expertise as network engineers
• Interact with various inter and intradepartmental peer groups to cooperatively achieve the best results in all assigned tasks
• Execute assigned tasks within assigned timeframes and budgets.

Your Profile...

• Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or computer science
• 4+ years of networking experience as an individual contributor within a medium to large Network Architecture or Network Engineering group
• Advanced knowledge of data network elements such as IP routers, Ethernet switches, firewalls, load balancers, Wireless, etc.
• Advanced knowledge of IPv4 & IPv6 network technologies such as IP addressing (CIDR, VLSM, HEX), ARP, etc
• Advanced knowledge of Layer-2 network technologies including Ethernet WAN and IEEE standards like 802.1, 802.1q VLAN tagging, 802.1x, …
• Advanced knowledge of IP related protocols such as OSPF, BGP-4, …
• Advanced knowledge of IP QoS technologies; classification/marking, queuing, and traffic conditioning
• Strong working knowledge of AAA technologies such as LDAP, RADIUS & TACACS
• In-depth understanding of protocol analyzers (i.e. Ethereal)
• Must have demonstrated proficiency in operating systems to include Windows. Linux experience is a plus.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Juniper or Cisco certifications or industry equivalent professional certification
• Hands-on experience with IP routing/switching equipment from Cisco Systems or Juniper Networks.
• Multi-vendor MPLS and VPN network design
• Excellent organizational, verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills with a high degree of attention to detail
• Must possess strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to interact with all levels of employees in a professional manner
• As an essential function of this position, the employee must be able to handle high levels of stress satisfactorily and be congenial with other employees and customers at all times
