Mark Selby sinks Gary Wilson to claim China Open title

By ESPN Staff

Mark Selby swatted aside the challenge of former taxi driver Gary Wilson to claim the China Open title in Beijing.

Selby ensured the perfect preparation for his world title defence at Sheffield's Crucible Theatre later this month with a quick-fire 10-2 victory over his fellow Englishman.

Selby raced to a 3-0 lead before Wilson pegged him back slightly by winning the fourth frame with a break of 91. But the World No.1 proved too good for his opponent and even managed a 145 break in the seventh frame.

Wilson stunned world No.3 and home favourite Ding Junhui in Saturday's semi-final to book his place in the title shoot-out. The 29-year-old had never been beyond the last-eight of a ranking tournament before his surprise run in Beijing.

But there was to be no such upset in Sunday's final as Selby wrapped up victory with seven frames to spare, sealing his second ranking title of the season.
