FAQs About Apple Desserts
Before we get into the recipes, I’m going to address some common questions I’ve received over years of sharing these sweet treats. If you have another question that isn’t answered here, please leave it in the comments and I’ll get back to you ASAP.
What are the best apples to use for dessert recipes?
When cooking an apple, it will become caramelized and much sweeter than eating it raw. For that reason, I tend to shy away from super sweet apples unless I develop a recipe specifically for them (such as my salted honeycrisp pie below).
My recommendations for baking apples are:
- Granny smith
- Jonagold
- Braeburn
- Pink lady
Should apple desserts be served warm or cold?
It depends on the specific recipe, but I’d venture to say that most apple dessert recipes are best served warm unless the recipe specifically states to chill before serving or serve at room temperature. Even better? Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream to the top—it’s fantastic.
