This week Bioforcetech hosted representatives from Bolton & Menk, Inc. and Vessco, Inc. for a tour of our full scale biosolids BioDrying and Pyrolysis installation at Silicon Valley Clean Water in Redwood City. Valentino Villa toured the group across our technology, followed by a walkthrough of the HMI interface lead by BFT's Robert Leeds from Operations and Maintenance. Two Key Takeaways: 1) If you need a group of engineers to focus on something, take them to a large pneumatic pipe fitting when it is about to detach and reattach. 2) While our drying and pyrolysis system does achieve zero external thermal energy requirement, there may be potential for powering the entire plant on COO Valentino Villa's hand gestures alone. More research into energy capture is needed. Thank you to Paul Saffert, Angie Saffert, Kris Swanson, John Graupman, and Clark Corbett for joining us!

Last week, Director of Development Garrett Benisch attended the Oregon State University Global Hemp Innovation Center to take part in their Hemp Industrial Materials Supply Chain Workshop. Garrett attended as a Carbon Expert, sitting on panels alongside researchers in activated carbon and agricultural byproduct valorization. The conference was extremely in depth and introduced us to the tightly knit international community of hemp producers and processors from the US and New Zealand! Thanks to the Global Hemp Innovation Center for hosting us and including us in such an informative event.

Our dryer has been delivered to Scappoose, Oregon! ⬇⬇⬇ Our modular fabrication and design allows our units to be shipped fully constructed and ready to be set up. As the treatment plant's flow grows over time, they can simply add more units to expand their processing capability! Sustainability and efficiency go hand in hand, from drying with bacteria to prefabricated units! #natureisawesome #wastewater #sustainability

We are excited to announce that we will be installing 8 BioDryers and 2 BFT Pyrolysis units in Brentwood, California! This installation is designed to process 1,430 tons of dry solids into 650 tons of OurCarbon® annually, with room to grow. This will be our largest system to date.  Casey Wichert, director of Public Works in Brentwood gave his remarks on Bioforcetech technology: “The ability to divert organics from landfills, remove PFAS from biosolids, and create a value-added product like OurCarbon® made Bioforcetech an obvious fit to advance our processing in the City of Brentwood. We look forward to installing their innovative technology.” The Brentwood system is set to commission in 2025-2026, and BioDryers are already in production. We look forward to updating you as this project progresses!

Introducing Dylan Haworth, one of our talented summer interns at Bioforcetch! As a rising senior at the Colorado School of Mines studying civil engineering, Dylan had some experience with biochar prior to joining the BFT team. Before this internship, he wrote a research paper about mixing standard ASTM C109 concrete using biochar as a supplementary cementitious material. After this research, he felt that he had a large gap in understanding the field of biochar at scale, so he decided to take on this internship to increase his knowledge! Dylan focuses on running the bench scale unit and testing various feedstocks. His work will make the foundation of a database of biochar characteristics based on their processing parameters, all directly scalable to a BFT system! Dylan thinks the most exciting thing about Bioforcetech is that there will be so much more growth to come in the many uses of biochar and applications of pyrolysis. “The coolest thing I have seen is the camaraderie among everyone at Bioforcetech and how everyone collaborates so well.” His hobbies are playing the accordion, playing video games online with friends, glassblowing, and painting. He is interested in transit infrastructure, which makes it fun to commute around the bay. We are so happy to have you as an intern Dylan!

Bioforcetech is now offering biomass feasibility studies to produce samples of biochar from new biomass! While innumerable biomass materials can be utilized to create biochar, only a small handful are being processed at scale and in select areas. Biomass from waste sources, industrial sources, and agricultural and woody materials are all able to be transformed into fixed carbons with unique properties yet to be understood. Bioforcetech is excited to offer feasibility studies to produce biochar samples that couple precise processing with scalability through our bench scale pyrolysis unit to understand these many sources and their biochar potential. Our unit can process biomass at precise temperatures and residence times, offering control that can produce specific characteristics in a biochar that can be leveraged by industry. If you are producing a biomass and are interested in understanding what biochar you could create, get in touch! Similarly, if you are in search of fixed carbons with specific characteristics, please get in touch to discuss joint research on end applications through this service.

We’re in full production on a new installation! ⬇ ⬇ ⬇ Our Italy factory is working away at full capacity for a new installation here in the USA! We have nine BioDryers in various stages of assembly on one side of our space, with their accompanying air systems on the other. Bioforcetech is looking forward to shipping these stateside for installation… stay tuned to find out where they’re going! 🤫
